Any tips on how to tie the jigs 18" above the slab?

I am just getting into sandbass fishing and going out late this morning (i know earlier is better but still have to work half a day first frown )

The rig that i have setup for today is a 1/2 oz slab with a black and chartreuse crappie jig (1/8 oz head) attached ~18" above to a swivel, using a Palomar knot

Wind blew us off the lake, but not before we put a dent in the white bass.

Doesn't matter what color jig you use above the slab. I tie a loop knot for the jig. At Lavon, u need to down size to 1/4 oz to match the shad size

That is correct. If you have a boat, mapping system, and a graph, you can catch Sandies. I report where I am and what I'm using in all my posts. Crappie- I'll tell u depth what structure to target and not GPS locations, sowwy.

Sandies were boiling all over the lake this morning chasing the small, newly hached shad schools. They are less than a quarter inch long. You can badly see them. Problem was the schooling fish were sandbass, but they were 6-7 inch fish. So back the to the humps we went. Clients left with a two man limit. Had to work for them though today. Not stacked up and always moving. Cloud cover seems to keep them hunting and roaming all day. When its sunny out they stay put.

No hump fishing today. The humps were void of fish today. The Sandies decided to pop up on top today. Acres of boiling fish. At 9 am we only had 30 fish or so in the boat. I was a bit nervous and felt like it was my first day on the job or something. I went to all the normal spots and I noticed the shad were 10 ft deep all over the lake. I told my clients with the bait being so shallow, the might boil if the sun comes out. 15 mins after the sun popped out it was on. Everyone in the boat caught over 100 Sandies in less than an hour. You had to drop the slab no deeper than 15 ft in 30 ft of water. The fish were hanging under the shad that were 8-10 ft down. Most action started at the point of the island and moved south. We left them boiling, with a 4 man limit (100 fish to take home) at 11am.

Remember: they enforce the law " you must clean your fish at your final destination such as your residence " -or you will be issued a ticket if you clean ur fish at Lavon. Some wardens don't enforce this, but the rangers and another warden enforce this rule. So be carefull what u do.

1/4 oz chartreuse slabs are key.

We actually had a 22-24 inch pure strain Striper right at the boat and came unhooked before I went to grab it. . I think there are 100 in the lake. It's a very small population of them. Last year we landed 4 all year. When the lake turned over, I found 5 dead ones floating within the first week.

Found some new structure to limit out on Sandies.

Very big Sail Boat sunk 10 years ago, my client said early in the trip. Tragic accident. I have never seen it. Then were just blabbing in the middle of the lake and drifted over the boat we were talking about a few hours ago.

But it held a a limit of fish. The fish have left the humps and now they are chasing the shad schools, the babies, all over the lake. I drove all around the lake today 4 times looking for them. Picked off 10 here and there. So I said last and final look, one more spot, they were main lake suspended 20 ft. Got a limit had fun and got out. -Stupid Fish.

I drifted over it. So ill take a better pic tomorrow if the wind is not to bad.

If the wind is under 10 mph, its easy to find them. Today they were in 30 ft of water. Around the island. Look for the bird standing on the banks. They will fly out and dive on shad when they boil up telling you where the fish are when it's to choppy. I can't wait for a glass calm morning. It will be crazier than it is now.

These are all 12-15 inch fish.
