Hey all, I'm new to fishing for white's and hybrids. I have fished Lavon recently but haven't hit RH yet. What's the difference between these 2 lakes when it comes to sandies and hybrids? Sounds like they both produce. Thx!

First off you can't go streaking at either lake. I don't know jack but I know that Lavon is smaller than Hubbard and may be easier to find fish when finding fish is tough. Second, Ray Hub has a healthy stock of Hybrids and can be great when you find them. Lavon has great sandbass and catfish with less pressure then Ray Hubbard. Boat shows at both lakes can be just as nice or pissy depending on how you arrive to the show. I know it's not much but others will chime in with quality info.

no hybrids in lavon. just sandies(whites)
i find the avg size sandy in lavon to be smaller than those on hubbard.
Set the hook..... It's free.

Eau Contraire, mi amigo! Lavon has both hybrids AND pure strain stripers. Just not in numbers! The few it has in both species are rather large(See T-Fly's postings). I personally have taken pure strain stripers from Lavon with the biggest being 12 lbs on a hand held scale.
Choked with white bass, but alas, you are correct in that Lavon whites are a tad smaller than Ray Hub's. But respectable and quite edible nonetheless.
Cheers, Rudy

To me Lavon seems easier to learn I would always just fish points or fish around the island and always catch fish, there's not a lot structure on that lake besides timber. Later when I started fish Hubbard it look me a little longer to learn. Hubbard to me defiantly has bigger white bass and a good size population of Hybrids. Hubbard has a lot more amenities surrounding the lake which for me is very convenient but for me the thing I like the most about Hubbard is the amount of resources you have. More guides on Hubbard, a lot more topics about Hubbard on this forum, in my opinion you can learn so much more about Hubbard due to the people and guides helping you. One more thing Lavon gets low so much faster than Hubbard at this rate there might not be any ramps open on Lavon in August/September.

post in the Crappie and Catfish sections, you might get different perspective...
The pursuit (where are the fish), rigs design and setup, scouting, the awesome feeling of casting your rigs 100+ yards out, the total focus on the fish and the elements, the outdoors... the total exhaustion at the end of your fishing day,... the cooler full of fish to bring home... Yeah, I'm going to miss bank fishing!

My boat is 5 minutes from the lavon and all my buddies fish RH. The boat show on RH are mostly buddies and we all get along great, chatting and catching! LL is often too low and the water is stagnate. The sandies there dont look healthy. Striper are too few. Only one boat ramp has a courtesy dock and now I have to beach the boat walk on sand/mud to get to the dock. Lavon needs lots of TLC

Cheers, Rudy Hey Rudy, While you are correct, I think Plano meant that you don't go hybrid or striper fishing in Lavon and expect to have a good day. The same goes for striper fishing in Hubbard. Do they exist? Sure. Do you catch them on 50% of your trips? Not hardly. Both lakes are a lot of fun. Jackson

Lavon is good to fish in the summer because Hubbard is over run with party boat idiots --LOL--. I learned how to fish for sandies on lavon the first three years i had my boat. I wish they would stock hybrids there after they get the texoma pipe line finished But who am i to give em that idea --LOL--

I have spent a lot of time on both since I grew up in Richardson and lived in Plano and Rockwall.
Lavon is the northern mud hole You can duck hunt on Lavon Lavon is better for crappie and in my opinion bass. Lavon has more and better ramps You can camp on Lavon Lavon is deeper when full Lavon has more personality - shanty town (there was another name but I will not write it, gone now), Branch, Lucas, Farmersville. I believe that as far as surface acres go they are close since they raised the level of Lavon. No timber in the lower end of Lavon. At least not like Hubbard.
I could probably come up with some more.

Lavon is where I also first learned to fish for sandies. In my own opinion I think sandbass wise its an easier lake to figure out. 90% of the time I would fish all along the glass house shore all the way to the island and around the island or go to lavonia park.
