Sorry to scatter shoot here but I am having a lot of trouble getting good readings on my DI on the 1198, if anyone has any settings to share I'd appreciate it, I am having good luck with the side scan, but can't get much definition when I go back over with DI, lots of trash on the screen, I'm usually in 15 to 20 feet of water, got sensitivity on 10, amber 2, and am careful about keeping speed correct, any help much appreciated, thank you!

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

The fact is that each has it's advantages and disadvantages. I was truly thinking about switching over before we spent those hours running side-by-side. Now I know there isn't a huge overall difference between them. It's like Ford and Chevy. There are Ford people and there are Chevy people.
Doesn't matter what you have, if you don't learn to use and interpret it then you might as well have nothing at all.

Thanks Huey!
Great info!

Would like to find a really good video on setting up a Hummingbird sonar. Something like the Idiots Guide to Depthfinders.

alot of people are getting confuse with the fix for interference when the trolling motor is sending out noise that the sonar is picking up. the POWER cable going to the sonar unit has a little round built in choke, that helps, but usually, you have to get whats called a FERRITE ring, from humminbird,(free), to install on your TRANSDUCER CABLE,NOT the power cable, and that will usually take care of interference issues, providing nothin else is goofed, like running power to the unit off the trolling motor batteries. thats a big no no.

Just got a HDS7 Touch and an Elite 7 HDI so I went out to Lewisville yesterday to do some brush hunting. I am still learning the units but like the results so far.

You can even see where the one bamboo bucket is laying on it's side.

Any guesses what this is?

All these pics were taken from my cell phone. Need to learn how to log the sonar and capture actual screen shots.

Man I love these units.

I have read many post about locating brush piles using waypoints and sometimes it is tough to do. Something to consider. My boat is 22 ft, my transducers are on the transom 11 feet from the console. My si di hd unit is on the console. This means i may be at least 11 ft off anytime. Add in the manufactures 3 meters (9ft)
accuracy. Now i can be off 20ft in any direction, at anytime. I fine it is helpfull to approach a BP from the same direction you were traveling when you established, wind permitting. If I am have difficulty finding one of my BP I will go over my waypoint at max zoom and drop a marker. Then run a pattern over the area with the Si unit, using the marker bouy as a reference. This usually does the job. Another thing to consider is the BP looks different approached from different directions. One of the GPS antenas located over the transducer should cut my error to 9 ft.
My 2 cents worth

also set your navigation to " course up" so the boat icon is always pointing in the direction your going
