I did say hybrid X sand bass not hybrid X striper.

The big question is. IF this is a F2 by hybrid striper X sand bass and a sand bass will it be able to reproduce? If so it could cross with another of its kind theoretically producing a new subspecies just like it's self. If it can and does cross with a sand bass it could open a proverbial can of worms for law enforcement and fishermen alike. A F3 would be 1/8 striper 7/8 sand bass. A F4 would be 1/16 X15/16. I might take a geneticist to tell them from a native sand bass. Yet under current law it would be a hybrid and legally treated as such. Good or bad this kind of thing is going to happen when man fools around with nature. My worry is that our government officials don't have enough commen sence to handle the legal end of something like this without doing something monumentally stupid.

Let's hope for the best, Nature yanked the cord on Man's foolishness, F2 is not possible... So far the evidence is leaning toward infertility for cross species hybridized animals and fish...

The pursuit (where are the fish), rigs design and setup, scouting, the awesome feeling of casting your rigs 100+ yards out, the total focus on the fish and the elements, the outdoors... the total exhaustion at the end of your fishing day,... the cooler full of fish to bring home... Yeah, I'm going to miss bank fishing!

While rare F2's can cross. There have been more than 60 documented cases of foals born to female mules. Including one owned by A&M that was genetically tested to be true. Fish because of sheer numbers, method of reproduction, number of chromosomes, and being a genetically simpler animal than a mammal it is much more likley to be capable of F2 reproduction.

We caught a bunch at Fork yesterday, we were going to keep some but, I could not tell the difference between the Hybrid and the white bass.

Fork has never been stocked with hybrids or striper, so pretty safe keeping them as whites. Then again whites were never stocked in the lake either...

Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?

Me too! rolfmao This is why in a case like this, I'd use SuperDuck's method, JUST HROW THE FISH BACK IN THE WATER! .......... or look at the tooth patch, 0/1 tp, keep it, 2 tp makes sure it is at least 18" and legal, else back in the water it goes! grin

I'm guessing some kind of yellow hybrid. It has joined yellow bass dorsal fins but it's too big to be just a yellow bass.

When in doubt toss it back. If a game warden checked your catch, what would he call it?
