On Hobie "kayaks". I put that in quotations, because anything that doesn't PRIMARILY rely on a paddle for propulsion, isn't a kayak. Just for added argument, the dictionary defines a kayak as having to use a double bladed PADDLE for propulsion. kay·ak [kahy-ak] noun 1. an Eskimo canoe with a skin cover on a light framework, made watertight by flexible closure around the waist of the occupant and propelled with a double-bladed paddle. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/kayak?s=t

So also by that definition whatever you are using for a "kayak" isn't a kayak either. Becuase I highly doubt you have an eskimo canoe with a skin cover on light framework.
CHECK and MATE.

Material advancements are expected with technology improvements. Changing propulsion methods makes it something else. It's not even driven by your arms....

Hey, you saw me use the paddle to push off You are just jealous of my easy course corrections If you don't feel it fits the definition of a "kayak", we can refer to it as a kayak2.0

Makes it a bit unfair to REAL kayak users :P (PS, there was no hate, just smack talking in this post)

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to own one! The ability to fish without managing a paddle would be awesome, but that's part of fishing from a kayak, isn't it? The managing of your tasks.
But I don't think they should be classified as kayaks (since they technically AREN'T).

I think Andrew Pynckel is just mad BC i posted on his FB saying his next upgrade will be a Hobie ;-) If you are not worried about being able to easily troll and fish hands free the Ride is a perfect kayak. But like any anything the outcome is always best when you have the right tool for the job. Am I the only one that notices Matt dominating the NTKFT?? I feel he has the advantage BC of the pedals...just my

Needs more anti-wind capabilities though. Have not yet had the opportunity to rig up an anchor trolly, stake out, drag anchor, or real anchor yet. It sucks being blow into trees, weeds, and everything else when you're trying to fish, then look over and see the guy in the hobie, PEDDALING (not paddling) along keeping both hands on the pole. This is my opinion (and we know what they're like), but I would like to see the mirage drive banned in tournaments. Yea. I said it.

All things have their places, and with that, pros and cons.
See how jealous you are of the mirage drive anglers on Caddo Lake (you wouldn't be jealous at all).

I care about the definition of "kayak", requiring the use of a paddle for propulsion. I don't care if the Hobie's do poorly on one particular lake, they have an unfair advantage over those who are relying ONLY on a paddle.

I picked up a used mariner from a gentleman on here for a good price. Did itso I could keep up with the others peddling. I reccon all is fai. just because people's budgets allow or don't allow this or that for fishing shouldn't make it banned. Example : I have peddles but no FF currently of any kind. Alot of people will be fishing with one tomorrow. Some even side imaging! But I'm not to worried. If we want to split hairs, lets call it the human powered boat and kayak but no tube tour. I do get what your saying, its just the nature of the beast. Innovation that is. Just like most boaters fishing for cash have 250 mercs instead of 45's back in the day. And I do believe a paddler won the Roberts event. Which if most recall was hell on water for everyone ... except Robbie
