of course she is lifted with 33"'s

Man, I relate to that most of the time.

My 5.3L 4wd Suburban with 3.42 rear end gets about 18mpg at 70-75 mph on interstate. I pull a little heavier load than most, at about 5500lbs, I get 8mpg towing at 60mph....cause that's as fast as it wants to go without frying the tranny.

Unless Im on flat flat ground, I get better mileage pulling 65 than 60. At 60 the hills Kill me.

I don't think 5500 lbs would make me sweat that much. Is your suburban the 4 speed or 6 speed? I have the six speed in mine and have pulled that and more with no issue up to 200 miles. Im a stickler for maintenance tho, my trans temp ran about 180 on the way home in the heat of the day. I change trans fluid every 30-50k but Im towing something nearly every weekend with the truck.

I put 265k on my '94 chevy original trans never rebuild by pulling in drive and droping the pan and 4 quarts of new fluid every 30k.

what kind of boat are you pulling?

we used to go to falcon in a 07' 1500 Z71 towing a 20' champion, and only got 10-11 mpg come to think of it. 65-70mpg the whole way, almost all highway

Its a 19-foot Carolina skiff. A not so popular flat bottom fiberglass boat. Riged and done its about 2500 lbs for the boat motor and trailer plus what ever gear we have in it. It will weigh about 1000 lbs less than a 20-foot bass boat.

6 speed. You're probably geared better but 5500lbs is a lot for that engine. My boat only weighs about 200lbs. It's the TT I haul it in that weighs so much. I try to keep the trans temp under 210.

With the F150, I hope I won't have to worry about it any more.

I have enjoyed my 5.3 chevy. If the ecoboost wasn't in its first months of production when I bought I would have gotten one.

There is no denying the eco has a boatload more towing power than the 5.3, Im sure it will do you fine.

Mine has the 3.42 gears as well, if it was 2wd I would have already threw a set of 3.73's or 4.10's in it, but not sure I want to mess with re-gearing the front dif. myself and Im not into paying people to work on my vehicles... especially when they are running fine.

LOL some folks are going to have to pull a tank behind them to catch all that fuel their vehicle is making.

2009 Ford F150 4x4. 15 to 17 on hwy. 10 to 11.5 pulling 19 ft bassboat. I can make it get 20+ hwy by driving < 60 and using the fuel ecomony graph. Coast down hills and don't accelerate up them. No one I knie drives like that.

It hates to be out in the wind. Much better mpg in steady moving traffic.

Im sure that was directed at me. Oh well.

Went to lake Whitney for my first anniversary this past weekend, southeast side of San Antonio to Whitney and back home drove 65 on I35, hand calc on the way there 14.73 mpg with a tail wind and 14.2 on the way home with a light headwind.

Wasn't directed at anyone in particular. What you just posted sounds pretty accurate to me.

Sounds like you take really good care of your stuff...that 94 chevy should be on its 4/5 tranny!...LOL! I've got 233000 on my 01 Silverado and never had the tranny rebuilt...I'm living on borrowed time i think

Here is today's equation to the reasons we don't seem to get as good of mpg.
We drive more aggressive than ever before.
We have to drive defensively more due to other drivers habits.
We have more ethanol than ever before, which does not equal good mpg.
If you have a truck getting 16 mpg or better with all of these factors....
Consider it a great success.

I would like to get another truck but these mpg ratings are scary! Any other advancements hitting mid size trucks coming in the near future to help out? 4 bucks a gallon is looking pretty common here soon again!
