So I went for a paddle on the Brazos below Whitney yesterday, and it turned out pretty spectacularly. Found sunfish all along the river in shady spots, and found a big spawning bed at one point too. Tons of fun with an ultralight rig and a 1/16th oz jig. On my way in, I was fishing near the hazard markers, and I heard an airboat coming. My first thought was that it was gonna shut down fishing for a little bit. Instead, right as it passes, I catch a fat 9inch bluegill, biggest of the day. Sweet. Then i catch nothing for ten minutes until the airboat comes back down the river, and again, right as it passes I catch another big one, this time 10.5 inches - biggest sunfish I have ever caught. I'll take it! So my species identification for sunfish could use some help - what species is this?

Looks to me like a cross between a redbreast sunfish and a bluegill.
