Obviously the price is what separates these two the most...I am new to buying specialized fishing clothing but starting to get some.
Is there a performance difference in the Columbia?

We've purchased both over the years. Price is really about all the difference. We've found that they all get ripped & stained fairly quickly so why pay more. We stick with the cheaper. Also, most have specific washing instructions that few of us follow (haha)

We prefer the non-cotton because they dry faster and hold up longer.

I've worn both and spend LOTS of days in the sun. Seems like the color in the Magellan shirts tends to fade in the sun quicker. Makes me wonder if the UV protection they claim is still as good as it should be. The ones with a higher cotton blend stain easier and absorb sunblock from the neck/collar area. I also have one of the Columbia Omni Shade caps with the ear/neck protector flaps. Works great, but the hardware pieces are some sort of metal/copper blend and easily corrodes from just freshwater use (possibly a little sweat too). I expected a little better quality on this hat. Can't imagine what it would be like if I spent more time down on the coast.

There is a Columbia outlet store at the mall in San Marcos. Nice prices.

Whatever is on the rack at Goodwill, that's my favorites. $50 on a shirt that's about to get slimed, poot mud and fish guts is first degree vanity.

I tend to leave Goodwill to the folks that are actually in need of Goodwill.

I have quite a bit of both. Columbia may be a little higher quality for a lot higher price. Columbia sizes seems to run larger than Magellan. MO

I have a Columbia Tamiami II Long sleeve shirt, nice finish, soft weave and SPF, they do run on the larger side. The Magellan ones seemed less quality, stiffer and baggy pockets. I went with Columbia on that one, since it looked "classier" and fit better... however I troll Ross, TJMaxx and the likes for whatever is on sale... Pat Goff nailed it though, I got a short sleeved UA one for $3.99, light stain near the bottom, but they run $70 anywhere else, and to get stinked and best up it is better than anything else. It is a size too big for me, but I don't plan to enter any fashion shows . I leave the other Goodwill stuff to the people that need it more.

I took the granddaughter out today doing some freshwater fishing today. I wore a yellow Magellan (STOP WITH COLOR IN YOUR TRACKS)and the was the shirt was usually hot to the point where I unbuttoned it. Granted it was warm today in Round Rock and I felt that a T would have been better. I normally wear my fishing shirts at POC and have never noticed the Magellan being that warm. My Columbia's are just fine. Go figure?
BTW... She killed the Rio's today.
