We bought a lease car that had 12,000 miles on plus warranty. The price was $45,000 we got it for $22,000. Looks and smells new. I will never buy a new bought. With 4 kids I just can't afford it. We buy a good used boat

Ding... Ding... Ding.... We have a winner!

That is how it gets fixed. Just say no to going into hock up to your eyeballs for a boat.

I purchased a 5 year old boat that had 500 hours on it. Saved $30K over new. I only gave up that new boat smell.

Boat and motor manufactures have to be laughing knowing that they can get the kind of money they do for bassboats.

I wish like hell I hadn't bought a new boat 3 years ago. And it was "only" a 30k bay boat. Never again!

It is ridiculous, I remember as a kid if you thought of or looked at a $250k home, you were talking about a mansion with land. Now that will get you a 3/2 cookie cutter in suburbia hell.

$3,000 in electronics (side imaging, down imaging, gps, transducer shields, brackets, ethernet cables, connectors, etc

$2,600 for two power poles

$400 electronic fish caller

$750 am/fm stereo

$1,000 hydraulic jack plate

$400 Hamby's

$1,500 in trailer options (disc brakes, powder coated, grab pole, step, folding tongue, led lights etc)

$750 hot foot, blinker trim switch

$600 for stainless locking latch hardware on compartment lids

$1,500 custom wrap job

$400 three batteries

$1,100 trolling motor

Ha! It's not the boat that's expensive, it's all the carp you add onto it just to go out and donate at a tournament to catch little green fish!

When it comes to boats, I have no clue why anyone would buy a new boat, unless you're a guide or sponsored and it's given to you. There are SO many clean, gently used boats out there for a fraction of the money. But, let me also say this, this is Merica, do whatever the heck you want. Free country, I have no right to tell you how to spend your money. Just my .02

Amen. As long as there is someone out there dumb enough to pay these inflated prices, the manufacturers will continue to charge them. Stop taking it up the wazoo and they will be forced to roll back. This applies to prices on almost everything. Think about it: you will not die if you don't get that new boat this year. There are a ton of good used boats and motors out there being sold by folks who are needing the money. Help out your fellow fishermen and boaters, and leave the big boat builders to fend for themselves. Have your brothers back.

I'm frugal,....plus, I don't have much money,......DEAL WITH IT!
AND, I still want a spanking new 521 Ranger.
Don't be like me,....it's too frustrating. EXCEPT, I'm going fishing Wednesday, in my ole 363V Ranger. The water will be murky, but I will catch a few bass anyway. So what if my story is different than the guy's who owns/can afford a new Ranger?

I fish a 1997 center console 20' bay boat and could not be more pleased with it, + it's paid for.

and as long as you can finance it for 15 years, the prices are just gonna keep climbing. It goes back to the same mentality that owning a home is a "right". It's not a "right" and neither is owning a boat. It's a luxury. If youre fortunate enough to be able to participate, you are blessed. There are many who are not, but still have the desire to satisfy their wants instead of cultivating their needs. Sometimes I wish you couldnt take possession of something you "buy" until its paid for in full. In my opinion, sick days would be a thing of the past and people would appreciate their jobs more and work harder.

YEP, financing 15 years on a 5 year asset. They sell them based on a monthly payment, not on the total price out the door. They try to keep you from focusing on that data, or fewer new boats (or cars) would be sold. Plus, they don't consider your total household leverage (debt to income) appropriately, because the loans are being packaged and sold to investors (poor saps with extra money, or to insurance companies or 401k investors). So all they got to have is a marginal credit rating and a check stub...when the market for financing blows up, then we will get back to price sanity, not before then.
