I have a 10' jon boat, and I was wondering if any body uses a jon boat on the medina river to fish, and where could one use one on the river. I would like to be close to home, far west bexar county or medina county, where it is easy to get the boat in the water.

Most of the places I used to fish in the Medina river are on my ranch property in Medina Tx. .. We would sight cast for bass,catfish..Some places are deep...most are shallow now.. You can drive to all the river crossings in the area from Bandera,Sabinal to Vanderpool and do very well on keeper bass 3#- 7# bass..some place on ranch road river crossings off 16 are really good and you need a small boat with trolling motor would be idea.! You must be close to my son in Bulverde area or San Antonio area. use plastic worms..small spinners.. topwaters early and late and bagley live crawfish series cranks kills them.. if you can use a fly rod...even better with closures in chartreuse over white hair red eyes..most bass will be hanging under the rock ledges with a little current in the clear cold water.. Last year few years we had no water or droplets in spots..the deer were walking around with their tongues hanging out they were so thirsty..for real!We put out a couple water troughs for the wildlife to drink water were there was none..

If you are by Castroville I fish that area weekly. If you go down by Kens park, turn left down the first road over the bridge you can sneak a John boat in over there. Bite has been real slow on that part of the river as of late. I fish the regional park all the time but the water has been low with a strong little gust.

well I just got back from a odd time on the river I didn't even fish, as the guy rick that runs ricks place on jungman rd. came by gross ln. and the medina river and started telling me I was trasspassing and not aloud to fish there and I can't enter the plubic water way. and that the warden should tell this. I have tried to fish at jungman be for all the no parking signs went up, and was told the same thing, I wonder if he is a warden or just trying to get me to pay to use his park. so be carful who knows whats up with this guy.

Drum, There is a part next to the spot I was telling you that No one owns. There is rope a long it separating it from some ones property so you should be fine. Also I only park in that spot or fish the river or at Castroville Regional park. It is not trespassing on Public land! A lot of people are haters! They think just because they fish a spot all the time that it is there spot. Its one thing like at braunig or Calaveras where people bring 20 poles but Medina river has plenty of room. The PD is just happy if you have a valid fishing license, they deal with all kinds at the park and I have talked with them and they are very down to earth. Most of them ask me tips on what to use for when they get off work!
