Access to the Medina River is very limited. Most of it is bordered by private property on both sides. Around Castroville access can be had at the Castroville Regional Park, and side roads leading into Koenig Park. You should also be able to enter at county roads crossing the river above and below the city, however, with the low water right now, these areas are very shallow. Just like anywhere else please respect the land owners and you should be ok. The water is still stained from recent rains and fishing is slow. With all that being said, I would recommend Medina Lake. With the water level so low, it is ideal for small boats especially if you can drag it to the water as ramps are not in the best conditions. Not many people using the lake, or whats left of it. I've heard some good reports recently especially night fishing.

Medina lake is great right now for a small boat, kayak etc.. Go to Reds at the dam and put in there..If you have a trailer you will have to back a long way down to the water..If you can carry your boat..even better.....Take it down to the water..put in fish the shoreline..dam egges, rock edges, early and late..The fish are starting to surface early and late..Catching sand bass, some Hybrids scattered..and black bass..All our fish are being caught on topwaters and shad raps..Some guys we spoke with were using large shiners and catching nice size hybrids..They said they were finding them on graph in shallow pockets ..then dropping the big shinners to them and were catching them..we saw ten fish total..they had five each that were over 22 inches each.. I did not see any one with cats...We had sandies ,blacks and a few Hybrids over 21 inches..all caught on lures. This was a few weeks ago..I do not know how it is right now..
