I believe Mr. Magnelia is the same biologist that keeps signing the permits for FoLA to keep dumping more and more grass carp in Lake Austin. In turn ruining a great fishery so some rich lake front property owners will be happy. I wouldn't trust anything he says. Seems like he's a biologist for hire so to speak. Give him enough money and I bet he'd be more than happy to stock hybrids out the butt in Canyon.

My reply was back in 2009. Since then, I've asked TPWD a question about crappie, and it looks like there is a new sheriff in town. This was the biologist that had responded to me:
Marcos J. De Jess District 2C Fisheries Management Biologist Texas Parks & Wildlife Department 505 Staples Rd., San Marcos, TX 78666 Office: (512) 353-0072 FAX: (512) 353-7304

Took my oldest son and grandson to the mouth of the river Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we started late but caught a few decent crappie, one 21" striper, couple whites, and some small Large mouth bass, with one perch. Sunday caught some nice Crappie and Small Bass, and as always the big one got away looked like about a 2 1/2 to 3 pounder off of medium size minnows

the wife and i fished cranes mill marina saturday night for crappie. We tied up near the gas pumps and caught about 40 fish total but only 10 kept, 5 crappie and 5 whites. All were caught on jigs with either gulp 1" minnows or 2" power minnows in emerald shiner. I was using a 1/16 white jig and my wife was using a 1/8 jig in chartruse. I caught more than she did but she caught all the white bass. I figured it was the color of the jig. she had 4 lb line and i had 6lb line so line shyness was not a problem

Are you allowed to tie off at the marina at night? I though they didn't allow it. That would definately be where I would go.

I just moved to canyon lake, live in startzville and am interested in fishing toms creek, as I also have only a trolling motor, do you have any other suggestions as to where to fish and which docks I should be using? Appreciate any advice really interested in fishing this lake.

Guess no GPS coords will make the ol' structure scan have to work a little harder to find those brush piles.
