Ok now the very proud owner of a ranger Z-21 with a 250 evinrude... It's not brand new but it's new to me... It's a 08... It's not as fast as my 01 nitro with a 225 optimax... But it should run faster then 60 right?? It has the hyd. Jack plate and a 25p tempest plus prop... I have tried the plate at different heights but 60 seems to be all she's got.. What should I expect... Any suggestions much appreciated... Thanks!!

Check to see if the throttle is opening all the way or it possibly may have a cylinder not firing. Should run 68-70 range.

Get a 26p Raker and set JP @ 3.25 below the pad and you should see 72-74mph depending on load.

There are guys getting mid 70's easy with same setup.

Something is wrong. I have an 06 z21 w/ Yamaha 250 Hpdi and I push 65-69 w/ tourney load and partner.

I just bought an '06 Ranger Z20 with 225 etec last week and noticed the same thing first couple runs on mine. Checked compression, checked for spark on all cylinders, replaced plugs. Went out a third time, same result, until I trimmed it almost at the top of the trim gauge. I'm used to an older Ranger or Procraft fish and ski and have never trimmed a boat that high. Didn't blow out, and she picked up to 65 with 3 guys and was still rising before I throttled down. Seems to me, these Z models take a bit to hit top speed and really need you to trim the heck out of them. Make sure your RPMs are correct at WOT too.

74 isn't realistic in a boat that heavy. Should run "around" 70- mph in reality.

That's what I figured it should run... Motor runs great... A misfire I don't believe is the problem... I thought about throttle not wide open but it runs almost 6k rpm...I will still have it checked out just to be sure though...

Does it have a hydraulic jack plate?

Yes it had hyd jack plate... But I have run it at all different heights...

Yea that boat should run 69-71 mph easy, something is for sure screwed up, either the motor or maybe the hull is waterlogged from a previous accident or something.

Also, I assume you're using GPS and not the Speedo right?
