Over the last several months fishing a jig has become my favorite way to fish and I was loosing quite a few at first. But what I've started doing dipping the trailer in garlic juice and letting the fish take that bait and run a little before setting the hook. I have had more success that way, with the juice in the trailer they seem to hold on to it longer. I use finesse jigs with baby brush hogs and just started using these missle baits as trailers. The fish have been tearing them up. I use a Falcon original MH, but just but a Cara Amistad, I think for my application they are both good rods. I use braid sometimes, sometimes mono, but I may try some floro and see how I like it. I also use a Garcia rod (the $99 white one) in heavy action and it is pretty good too.

What about these NuJigs? I watched all the videos and the physics make it seem like a better choice.. What are the thoughts on this jig? Positives? Negatives? Thanks

I assume you are losing them AFTER you have hooked up or is it after the fish picks it up and BEFORE the hookset? I am sure to use a solid (not ridiculous) 12 o'clock hookset. I personally like to drop a little slack in the line once it starts to move and then give them a nice 12 o'clock pop in the roof of the mouth. I catch all kinds of hell that I am going to break my line but I never have. This is also important. If you are hanging them in the side of the mouth then more often than not you will have a huge hole for the hook to slip out of. Hook them in the roof of the mouth and you will need a chainsaw and pliers to get the hook out.

I lose them about 3-5 seconds into the battle. I guess I'm hooking them in the side of the mouth and not in the roof of the mouth. So a higher hookset will fix that?

You people are all silly saying he needs different poles, line, etc. All you need to do is set the hook like a man and do it in a straight 12 o'clock motion as others have mentioned. That side to side [censored] is for amateurs.

What kind of jig? Flipping jig, Football or?

Mainly flipping jigs. But I have had the same problem a few times with a heavy brush football head. The football head I've been using is 3/4.. Does that make it even easier for the bass to throw the lure?

For Flipping Jigs you need a Heavy Mod-Fast Rod with 25lb Fluorocarbon or 40-65lb braid. For Fluorocarbon, I recommend Vicious Pro Elite, Seaguar abrazx, Gamma and the Bass Pro brand... all 20 and 25lb... I use 25 Vicious Pro Elite only because it don't stretch as bad as the others and STOUT STUFF.

You can set the hook like a man. But with a medium action rod and line with tons of stretch you are not going to be putting the fish in the boat.

Really, because that's what I do every time I jig...

People who blame things like their line stretching or their pole such aren't very good at said type of fishing. I'm not good at some types but jigging is just so straight forward it's ridiculous. The only real thing you can blame would be the hook size when crappie fishing. The smaller the better often times.

you don't need a very stiff rod like everyone is saying. i use a medium heavy falcon lowrider, the falcon is as sensitive as a medium. just make sure to give it a second, i know it is hard to but count to 2 then set the hook don't reel so fast that you put so much pressure on the hook that it comes out, take your time!

That is the jig I was using, caught 5 out of 6 fish, not too shabby, all the fish caught were not getting off, jig was buried in the top of mouth, I like this jig for sure.
