Does anyone fish from a Hobie Float Cat? I just bought a used one and some fins off Craigslist in Georgetown last weekend. I am pretty excited about it but won't have time to take it out for a few more weeks.

I have used the smaller 60" one many years ago, and liked it better that the large because of better portability. But your hindquarters will get wet in the 60", if you weigh more than 180#...

I bought the shorter 60" model and weigh 205. I guess I need to bring waders for the maiden voyage. It fits in the back of my Toyota Highlander without having to be disassembled.

If you google floatcat 60 you'll find a PDF of the owners manual. That might be nice to have. I think you found a great small water boat. The only drawback I noticed on them back when I considered one was the lack of a deck behind the seat for tackle storage.

Are the rowing kits just for the larger ones? I have the shorter 5' model. It fits in the back of my Toyota Highlander. The fins that came with it didn't fit over my wading boots so I bought a pair of Water Skeeter fins off EBay. Hopefully I can take it out this weekend and test everything.

There is no place to attach a rowing kit on the 5' version, and none was ever made AFAIK. You would have to drill the hulls or use an aftermarket kit for inflatables that has ratchet straps, but a foot bar would also be needed for leverage.

Looks like they can fit both the 60/75 models.

Have you tried e-mailing Hobie to see if they still have some in stock or might know who might have them?

How low do you sit in the water with all gear aboard with the 60"? If your feet are in the water at the foot bar that will cause a lot of drag. Might be faster with fins than rowing?
Just a thought...

I took the Float Cat 60 out Saturday and Sunday evening. I love this float. I caught 3 Crappie and 1 Bluegill on Saturday. On Sunday I installed a Bass Pro Shops Finese soft side bag to hold my gear and then went out again in the evening. I could not find the Crappie again but did catch 1 Largemouth Bass and 9 sandbass. The sandbass can really pull me around with only 4 pound line on an ultralight rod. I wasn't re-tying the jig and sure enough the last sandbass broke the line at the float as it was getting dark.

Sorry about that. I tried e-mailing them this morning and it bounced back. I then went to the Hobie website and clicked on the contact us button and got an error message.
