I've never tried rattle traps on the jetty how do they work? Are there any other artifcile baits that work well? For kings, Spanish and jacks you can't beat a ratltrap or a big topwater. For other fish I'm not sure, i don't usually fish for other species off of the jetty

That used to be the only bait I would use. Then my blue one finally got snagged. I have a green one but it doesn't seem to catch as many fish.

so much more fun when you catch something on a lure than sitting with bait. Those are amazing pics, I may have to make the drive down in the coming weeks you say?
Happy fishing!

Are you pretty successful with the rattle trap? What time of day, does it depend on what month??

Are you pretty successful with the rattle trap? What time of day, does it depend on what month?? I usually do best from daylight until about 11:00. Doesn't matter so much as the month I don't think but mostly about water clarity. I won't even go unless the clear water is in. I have seen tarpon caught on rattle traps when the water looks like chocolate milk though.

try to cast far out there and then when it starts to come in reel it in quickly. otherwise the dang trash fish will take your hook under jetty rocks and you get hung up. Really aggravating for a newbie or experienced fisherman.
Of course if you are using a floating lure, then NEVERMIND.

Good places on the south jetty rock side, walk a little ways past the green channel buoy marker.Rocks up to the buoy ---and sand just after...fish the jetty side with the 1 OZ.chrome lazer blue rattle traps..I use a small wire leader,I have lost too many without one. Also just on the outside of the jetty rocks about 5 ---15 feet out..cast along side and cast out.. eary in the morning..(before and at daylight)be at the tip of the south jetty..fish the jetty and gulf side..firetiger traps in 1 oz work too if the water is a little clear..or kite out live shad/herring or finger mullet..

CAUTION! be very careful walking out on those jetty rocks when you get out past the green buoy..The rocks with green alga are like wet grease..that is about all of them past the green buoy..you will fall..get washed over or bust your azzz real good if you are not paying attention..wear some type of shoes with good non slip grip soles..a very long hurt walk back..if you can make it back..

I was on N Jetty in PA when a fellow fisherman fell into the rocks while trying to land a huge red. He broke his leg. Somehow he got back on the top of the jetty. We had to call for a boat ambulance. After a long time and lot of pain a stretcher came out with huge balloon tires and wheeled him off.
Be careful.

How do you guys fish at night on and around the jetty? Thinking about doing an overnight fishing trip today.
