OK, now that I finally figured out this fly, I’m having fun tying it. So, before I give then all away to casting students, anyone want to have another fly swap?
Here’s the invitation, the fly needs to be “
Bluegill friendly with rubber legs” and the swap will be limited to 12 tiers with a due date of
May 23.
Why a Bluegill friendly pattern? Well, this is the time of year to fish for them and their assorted cousins, and it gives everyone an idea of the size fly to tie. As for the rubber leg requirement, that was a request by one of the last swap’s participants and it sounded like fun to me. For this swap, you can tie any style or size fly you tie, as long as you consider it to be “Bluegill friendly” and it has some version of rubber legs. For reference, my offering will be on a size 10 hook. Also, I don’t care if multiple tiers use the same pattern, because as demonstrated in the Woolly Bugger swap, nobody’s flies look like anyone else’s flies.
For those of you that are not familiar with tying rubber legs, this video does a good job of showing how to do it and it shows a pattern that would be good for this swap.

1. The swap will be limited to the first 12 people to respond.
2. Each participant will tie 12 flies, which are the same size and similar color. Any size and color is acceptable, but please submit 12 that are the similar.
3. The flies will be mailed to me and I will PM my address to the participants.
4. After the due date, I’ll split up the flies and each participant will receive one fly from each of the participants including your own fly. So, you’ll tie 12 flies and you’ll receive 12 flies back to you.
5. The last day to sign up for the swap will be May 5.
6. The flies will be
due to me on
May 23. << So, you get 4 weeks to tie 12 flies.
7. Include a self addressed,
stamped envelope to be used to return your flies to you. Please use stamps for the return envelope and
not metered mail since it can expire.
8. I recommend putting your flies in a box to prevent damage during shipment. Be sure your box is big enough to hold all the return flies. The box can be any small box that fits in the mailing envelope; I used an old fly line box last time.
9. Please “toe tag” your flies. This means to attach a piece of paper with your name on it to the fly so everyone knows who tied what. Basically, it is a chance to sign your work.
10. All skill level tiers are welcome to join this swap
11. Have fun!
So, is anyone interested in participating?
