Okie, I've not used the elite 7 or seen one in person but from the images I have seen I would agree with you. But I'd also say that would have to be the reason why the HDS series cost so much more, better definition. Elites a good entry level (never thought id see the day $700 would be considered entry) graph for the guys that don't want to drop a ton of money.

Lowrence "threw" the buyers, do not buy the device in US online stores.. The good device, but originally works not all. The problem is solved by insertion updating to version 1.8, however, adds other problem - there is no Russian and other languages, behind addition support of Lowrence sends to dealers.. Dealers demand very much not the humane prices for it, if you from Russia or Ukraine, look for other options of acquisition

did you download the 1.8? also the elite 7HDI is a true high def down image unit, with a true, dedicated down image crystal.

Heres the thing, the 700 bucks is geting u a big screen, and gps, thats why its so much. did u know they make an ELITE 7X? iT DOES NOT have gps. so its cheaper,.

so what I'm reading here is the Down Scan imaging in the Elite 7 HDI is fake?...

I'm NOT saying that....YET. That is what I'm trying to determine. It could just be me not understanding the unit. DO NOT start a rumor of any kind until we find out.

I have had one for about 3 months and used it probably 30 times and it looks good to me...however, this is the first Down Scan unit I have ever had so I don't really know either...

Did you get the Down Scan transducer?

Yes, of course. Without the xducer you don't get any pic at all.

Okie Bob you sure have bad luck with sonar units dont you, I think you have had just about every unit ever made, and u always get the junk.maybe try some golfing.

The pics of the elite looks like my hds8 with the downscan overlay on my regular sonar.

Could you post a screen capture so the rest of us can see what you are seeing? I don't have an Elite 7 HDI but have the HDS/LSS and would like to compare the two.

Yesterday morning I installed the version 1.8 update and WOW, what a difference it made.....I am hanging my head in shame for even thinking bad things about the Elite 7. The down imaging is all I had hoped it would be and I now love it!
I was too busy using it to even think about screen shots but, without doubt, this is a fantastic unit for the price.
If you want to upgrade to something beyond 2D sonar and can't afford one of the big units, this is the real deal.
Lowrance has a real winner in this unit!
PS: you can get a deal from David at Shutup and Fish and he is a TFF'er.
