I need to buy 2 new batteries for my boat. Was wondering if anyone has any positive feedback on either the Academy or Walmart batteries.
Also, what is the advantage of the 29's or 31's over the 27's? I had 27's for years, then went to 29's on the last set, but never really noticed a difference.
Btw, I'm trying to outfit a 20' flat bottom with a 67# thrust Great White 24V (so I need 2 batteries)
Thanks for any input you can provide.

Most all batteries in the USA are made under the same roof, Just labeled with a different name.

Try Metroplex Batteries for new and reconditioned batteries.

walmart batteries have a 2 year warranty on the best ones. They are also less expensive than Academy.

Another thing to consider is if you have something go wrong later you can exchange your battery 24/7 at Walmart instead of having to go by Academy's hours. Use your imagination here where the times you find out you need to exchange is not always convenient with Academy's hours.

I just changed a set of Wal Mart batteries that were from 3/10. They were still good(put in another boat)I use my boat year around with a motor guide 109. Now i changed to Optimas and a Minn Kota we will see what the future holds.

Over the last few years, I've switched all the vehicles/vessels over to Interstate batteries. I seem to get the longest battery life on my boat from them - 4 years versus about 2-3 on an Academy or Wal-Mart battery.
Same difference in usable life applies to the cars, although car batteries last much longer than boat batteries.

I've had a lot of bad luck with Walmart (Neverstart) batteries. Got tired of warrantying them out every few months and went back to Interstates. Pay a little more, get a lot more. Walmart may have better hours, but a trip ruined because of easily-exchanged batteries is still a trip ruined. And when they tell you that the battery tests fine and they won't warranty it, so you go buy a new one out of your pocket (which solves the problem), that warranty didn't do you a whole lot of good anyway, did it?

If Walmart tells you the battery is good after checking it with the little hand held tester, require them to put it on the big tester( takes about an hour to get the results).

I went to NAPA's AMG batteries hoping they last a long time. Kinda pricy but tired or replacing lead acid batteries and checking electrolyte.

You are gonna like those Optimas...especially if you get the red tops...I use them on everything...including the trolling motor...never any problems...last a long long time...just got to have smart charger for them...
