Just wanted to put this out to the kayak fishing crew. I screwed up on the first and second place anglers’ totals. I totally missed a fish on the Second place anglers SD card. The totals are very close and there are some discrepancies in scoring the pictures. I am having an outside kayak tournament director act as an impartial judge to score the final outcome. Results will be posted within a few days. Thanks to all the participated...yeah I make mistakes, granted rarely, but I'm human :-).

Maybe you made a mistake Rob but you are making a public attempt to correct it. That shows good character. Happy to be able to call you a friend!

I should have won by a 1/4" but had a fish DQ'd because the identifier scorecard wasn't visible. After writing on my card all day it became wet and wrinkled and was underneath that stupidly large sticker in the bag. Guys take note to remove these stickers from your bag they can stand between you and victory. Screwed me on Saturday Notice that you can see the PKAA logo at the bottom.

I feel bad for you Matt but I feel worse for me! My card was as good as new at the end of the day. Wished I could have said the same for myself as I took a swim after the tournament. Details later.

Little bit awkward... I do appreciate that Rob owned up to his mistake. After seeing Matt's fish pics on Saturday night and Sunday I agreed with him: he had edged me out by a 1/4 inch. I told Rob this and asked him to make announcement. He then explained about the fish without the clear identifier. I felt like that fish should count, but he and others didn't. So here we are.
In spite of all this, I appreciate Rob for putting this on and want to congratulate Matt on a nice stringer on what was a tough tough day for the field. Matt you're a great angler so I have no doubt you'll be at the top again in the near future.

Matt I feel for ya after doing so good. But Yea the tournament director made the right call. With the identifier not being in full view it makes the director have to make that call. One of the thing that helps not to get the card wet is to carry a small rag with you tied on the board. After taking a picture of the fish with the identifier, the fish is released and hands are wiped off with the rag, and then the identifier is taken from the waterproof rag. Hey Zombie was correct. Your a great fisherman and will be back at the top at the next one I'm sure. Hey, we are all learning how to do this and there will be mistakes made. Hopefully we will quickly learn from them. Great job, and sportsmanship guys!!!!

This is what makes tournaments great, and kayak fishermen even that much better. I've directed tournaments where cheating was involved. We are so much better than that. My suggestion to everyone is know the CPR rules by heart. Matt the stickers were in the weigh in bags because the sponsor had donated a $100 gift certificate for the event. They didn't need to stay in the bag. As we go along we will get the rules tightened up and the weigh in stream lined. As mentioned before, kayak tournaments are the new kid on the block. Mistakes will be made as we grow, but again to all of you, if there is a problem or you feel there is a problem, mention it before the tournament has been completed. Not after the fact.

I agree with everything you said Rob, and yes it does hurt to lose like that. I guess this sort of thing needed to happen to someone unfortunately that someone was me. I'm over it now, moving on to the next tournament. Rob thanks for everything you do for us I really do appreciate your hard work and dedication to the sport. If there is ever a question about scoring in the future it will be brought up immediately following the tournament. I got distracted with all the activities going on at the get together or I would have said something then. Congrats to Tom for being such a good sport through all of this with me, you deserve it buddy but you better believe I have extra incentive now to light up the scorecard at Benbrook!

I understand Matt, this was an unusual event to say the least. But I do say this with all truth, you are my friend no matter what and I too am sorry this happened to you. You are a great fisherman and I expect to see great things from you.
