I have also had excellent luck trolling skirted ribbon fish on the surface off outriggers. They don't have to fancy, just short riggers from your T top. We also troll Ballyhoo off down riggers. Actually the down riggers work best most of the time. With the outriggers it allows you to troll 2 flat-lines off the stern. Total 6 lines, make sure there all a different length to avoid tangles during turns.

Red Dot bait house has everything you need bait wise. It's right before you go across the JFK causeway. And if you buy the bait there, you can go back to their docks and clean your fish. Nice fish cleaning area with fresh running water and tables. They also give pretty good intel on fishing.
I don't think we spent more than $30 on bait and we had lots left over.

We are planning to come down the weekend after mothers day, planning to bay fish unless the seas allow us to near shore fish, any help with bay fishing if that's what we have to do? Port O'Conner of port Aransas.

The rigs out of packery are only about 3 or 4 miles comparatively how far out are the rigs at Port O Connor? Are the rigs out of POC deep enough to catch kings and ling?

The rigs out or port o' are probably 4 or 5 miles out of the big jetty there is a large rig a little to the north that I have done well at for kings snapper and ling. there are others there also and they all hold fish. You can see them from the jetty.

Clarity is way more important than depth for kings. The kings have moved into the shallow water rigs 2-4 miles off shore. If there is a rig in clear water, give it a go for some kings. Put some bait on a balloon and let it drift behind the boat. Watermelon shad are thick, so bring a sabiki with you for some fresh bait.

Could you give me a quick review of how to use balloons? I've seen people using them before but never used them myself

For balloons; just tie the inflated balloon to the line 8 to 12 feet above the ribbonfish and let it float away from the boat. It will drift with the chum line. I let it go about 30 yards from the boat. You will just have to see at what depth and distance is working on that day. A lot depends on the current. I have floated baits 4 feet under the balloon and as deep as 25 feet. You will learn what to do with some time on the water.

And tie the balloon to the main line with some nylon sewing thread so it will break off when a fish takes the bait...
