Yeah, Tacomas are always in demand. What engine, mileage and cab configuration is it? it is a v6 AT, DCSB, TRD off road, 2wd. Pretty much the top of the line for 09s. Dealer gave me a good enough trade in that I am not going to mess with selling. $20k with tax benefit. Not bad for a 4 year old truck with 88k that I paid $24k for. I know I could make a little more selling it myself. I still could. New one will not be in for a couple of weeks. The value of those used Tacomas is unreal. How is a dealer making money paying $20k on a truck that someone paid $24k for 4 years and 88k miles ago. What are you replacing it with? I've driven a Tacoma, but I just think from a comfort and drive-ability standpoint, it doesn't even come close to justifying the cost. In 2008, I bought a 4 year old (2004) full size Silverado crew cab 2WD with the 5.3L and 42k miles for $13,500. This dealer you're trading it into is thinking they can sell a 4 year old light duty (instead of full size) with double the miles, a V6 instead of a V8, for just under double the price. It's unreal what used trucks go for now.

$20k is with the tax benefit. Also, I did get a good deal when I bought it. I got 10% off MSRP plus a rebate which is rare on a Tacoma. There are several for sale on Auto Trader and some of the asking prices are unreal.

Tacomas are just unreal.

Tacomas are just unreal. A vehicle is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, or what someone will take for it. Books are merely a good starting point. If something was bought at an auction, it is either highly in demand, or the opposite, bought at less than book. When the PT Cruiser first came out, demand outstripped supply, and dealers were paying top dollar at the auction. 2 years later they were going for less money at the auction, than the book value.

I compare prices using Car Max. They are usually pretty close to true value. But is the car max price trade in value or what the car is really worth? If their buying it I'd assume they were going to try and turn around and sell it, correct? To clearify, when I see a vehicle I might be interested in, I look at what a comparable vehicle at Car max sells for. I can't speak about Car MAx buying a vehicle.
