All snakes look the same to me, rule # 1 don't matter what kind, avoid them. His head doesn't look triangular to me. Any question ? Revert to rule # 1

What kind of snake is that? Cool pics thanks for sharing. Nerodia rhombifer, aka diamond-backed watersnake. Wait, that looks thick, like a cottonmouth. And the color does not look like the "water snakes" I usually see. The head is trianglar making me think viper. So is that or is that not the deadly cottonmouth? Snake experts? Not a cotton mouth.

Same snake as your photo, these photos are water snake. A cotton mouth is BIG if he's 4-5 foot long, also look for a black tail, horizontal line on the side of the head cat eyes and they swim on top of the water. See video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WmHtaqGY784

Of all the snakes I've seen in the last three years I've only seen one cotton mouth, and that one was at Mill Creek
