I really am interested to hear what the max spawning depth is, in a trivial sense that is. It probably won't change how I fish for them. The number of replies and views make him an expert. Right? That's why he keeps talking to himself. He knows everything and rarely catches fish. He has to ask every local fisherman how and where they are catching their fish. I wonder how long his post would be if he went out and caught a limit by himself???? hey Hunting and Fishing...I can attest to his fish catching ability given first hand experience...he is a double pole guy, that loves his slab bandits, and Ketchn is a good name for him...He can catch fish...and he is a hoot to fish with! Photo ops galore...Every fishing trip with him is an ADVENTURE....tons of fun.

More than one pole is just another spider riggn adventure. I do my part and keep bumping the post up. Hell I might even fish with him! Ha! So what did he say? Should we wait till next week? Hopefully we can get back to a positive and informative Fishing Forum about crappie fishing. Maybe his trash fish stories should go to the general discussion section.

Crapicat,
Ketchn's been my friend for quite a while. Helped me learn to call turkey and made me a successful whitetail hunter. I've only fished Texas but that's saying a lot compared to most states. From the Red River to the Rio Grande and from San Angelo to Tyler; I've met very few fishermen who have as much enthusiasm, skill and experience as my friend Ketchn. There were those with greater skill but lacked the enthusiasm and those with more enthusiasm but lacking skill. There are better fishermen and better hunters out there for certain. Eccentric? Absolutely. But he's the best friend I've known and one heck of a good guy.

I kinda figured that one out on my own, buddy...but sometimes our fellow forum members only get a chance to read him via online comments...so good post comment...Oh yea, you forgot to mention that he knows who his friends are and that he has their back...should they ever need help....Later

first of all, there are some clear water lakes in texas. ask the biologist to go look at stillhouse hollow lake. second, white crappie spawn deeper than black crappie. third, how can we know how deep uv rays actually penetrate stained or clearer waters? just because we cant see 3 feet in water, doesnt mean fish cant. As I have said before, it is a impossibility, that more crappie spawn shallower than deeper because 1. theres only so many running feet of bankline, 2. theres only so many running feet of suitable bankline, 3. if the water is clear in the shallows, they wont spawn there. who here can say they sight fish for crappie on beds on central texas lakes??? bass maybe. but Ive never seen a crappie on a bed. I have personally witness white crappie spawning in 12 feet of water, over 15 feet. They never went shallow because the water was just too clear. common sense will tell you, if all 50,000 mature crappie in a lake went shallow to spawn, the species would be decimated. in my opinion, crappie will spawn as shallow as possible but as deep as neccesary.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

well well ....viral again .... oh my ......piscatur sez i stir the pot alot ..... hmmmmmm anyway on with the "facts" ...... yes leanin post i was going there .... you mite have noticed i put the word "local" in front of lakes he mentioned personally watching "bass" .... at lake Amistad where the water is clear enough to see the botttom a long way down .... sitting on beds in 15 feet of water ! and he never mentioned anything about UV or the color spectrum , just the actual light penetration .... and maybe i should quickly remind everyone .... these things we discussed were going to upset some of the folks here .... i think i put that lil warning in the first post rite ?

in essence he was telling me it was possible for them to be very deep if the lake allowed sunlight that far down .... just not around dfw ....i think he is actually a "local" state fish biologist ....regional type thing if i remember correct he told me the reason they "most likely " cant spawn past light penetration is strickly because of the water temp and its inability to retain a steady water temp ..... i personally think predation pushes them as deep as they can go to still make babies and not get ate doin it just like you leanin post ..... the "spear gunned" male we found dead a couple a weeks ago is a prime example
