I have a 1998 Stratos 295 Pro with a six inch no name jackplate, a TXP 3 blade 25 pitch prop. I built the motor out of three yamahas I had, don't know horsepower, 2 to 1 gear ratio. At 6200 RPM I am running 70 MPH on the GPS. Any faster and the boat starts pulling hard right, when I try to correct it the steering gets really hard and it pulls right back to the right again. It really gets dangerous. The propshaft is set 3 1/2 inches below pad. Do I need to lower motor or raise it? I have good water pressure.

Yes try going up on the jackplate. I would look into trying a bigger pitch prop and maybe going with a 4 blade. It will take some of the torgue out it.

I have a 4 blade 25 pitch prop I can try. My jackplate will only adjust in 1" increments. Hydraulic jackplate is in the near future.

Not good advice guys....
He's describing prop torque "pull to the right" is perfectly normal, so you'll need to learn what the difference between normal and not normal.
When you raise the motor, that's going to surface the prop MORE, and create MORE prop torque, not less.
Please take this advice, find someone with their clue ticket punched to inspect your setup, run it and put another set of eyeballs on what you're doing. Trust me, hitting the water at 70 is a painful experience. Give yourself a chance.

when a prop lays a boat to the right, it gets very dangerous. my bullet did that at 85 before i added weight to the left side.
you need to balance the boat out. don't go up either. i tried that and it got worse.
need to try a 4 blade to get rid of torque and balance the boat.
also.. you may have excessive play in the steering causing you to not be able to keep the boat level on pad.

Hyd. workin' right and set up good you should be able ta let go of tha wheel at any speed with tha boat headin' in tha direction its pointed at when ya let go. It shouldn't "pull" in either direction........
There should be practically "0" torque on tha wheel at any speed, height, type prop etc.

Todd all these guys know way more than I do so there advise is better than mine. I second what Steve says about weight though I try to keep my fishing gear on the opposite side of my boat to level it out. When I first got it I kept everything on the driver side and had similar issues at higher speed. I even have my tanks set to pull from the drivers side first and will normally not top off the drivers side tank. Leaving it about 3/4 tank for weight balancing. I dunno if your boat has dual tanks but if it does that is a easy way to compensate for your weight. If I'm in the wrong maybe someone will let us both know.

Is your boat leaning or is it just pulling hard to the right? Do you have a torgue tab on the lower, or a torque tamer on the skeg? What kind of lower? What is your water pressure at WOT? Do you have low water pick-ups, 6200 rpm seems high. I have seen set-ups where the motor is buried and wont let the boat get on the "pad" and cause it to pull to the right. There are alot of variables that could cause your problem so all we can do is offer advise on our past experiences and maybe help you out. Can you turn your steering wheel freely when its in idle? Do you hear a ticking sound coming from your steering helm? Do you have play in your steering wheel? These are things you should check for.
