I threw my rod down and start pacing in the boat. When I raise the motor and get line off, she takes off again!! She was still there! I eventually get her in the boat and have the biggest sigh of relief. She went 9.91 and is the fish in my picture.

Now that is an awesome ending. i was sick but you gotta laugh or it will tear you up. i didn't want him to see me mad but i don't have to tell ya'll how we can be when we lose one. i felt like maybe i put him on that spot to soon, or didn't really get through to him on not horsing big ones in but hey that's fishing and i can't live without it! thumb

+1 There should be more guys like you out there. Having the chance at that fish says more than losing it. Sometimes getting fish that size to bite can be the hardest part. After a few lost ones, he will calm down and work them better.

I had a dd come off last week and im not proud of it but I probably screamed every cuss word in the book when she came loose. Lost another last night that probably went 8-9 pounds and I was just in shock.

Try losing one at the boat the weekend of the McDonalds, and knowing a hurricane was hitting the lake that night...

much thanks for the input to everyone. sat down with the kid last night and squashed any misunderstandings he had. just let him know you're not going to land every fish. even the pros loose em. so we're back on and hopefully do well and have some fun at the next tournament!

Just getting him out there is awesome. As the saying goes though, that's why they call it fishing not catching. Believe me when I say, your dialog was nothing compared to some of mine when losing good fish. Keep him cranking and the big fish will keep coming. Only advise I have is to put KVD triple grips on your crank baits. You'll still lose the occasional fish, but not as often. I love those hooks. Keep it up and hopefully he's addicted now.

Just let him know that most people never even get the chance to hook a dd that in itself is an accomplishment . I guarantee you last losing that fish has definitely got him hooked. Losing one makes you that much more determined to find and catch the next one.
