Sometimes fish hate you, nothing you can do about it.

I used to feel the same way about jigs. Finally started making myself throw them more a few years ago and like others have stated. Once you catch a few and really start learning how to work it, then it can't be beat. Id say I fish a jig about 90% of the time now. Love them and can't ever seem to put them down!. Not to mention they work year round and in pretty much every condition.

I am in the process of learning jigs now. I literally take my jig box ouy of the bag zip the bag back up and only carry my jig box with me. I have a pond about 300yds from my front door so I'm practicing a lot. I throw mostly small footballs or finesse jigs right now to work on technique. I caught one just a while ago I didn't even feel the bite. I went to hop it and it felt like it was hung up so I swung. A lot of trial and error right now but I've commited to it.

I love throwing jigs. For pitching I like 3/8 and 1/2 oz Viper XP and Santone jigs.
I use a Dobyns 745 Extreme and Dobyns Champion 705. Colors--there are a ton of them out there ut you can get by with just a few. Black/blue or black/blue/purple. Various shades of green. Black/brown/amber Peanut Butter N Jelly White I also use these same colors on my football head jigs.
For a swim jig use shad, and perch colors
There are a ton of trailers out there also, just pick what you like. Here are some I use.
Lake Fork Tackle hyper freak Grande Bass mega claw Xcite raptor craw jr Netbait baby paca craw Strike King rage craw Zoom ultravibe speed craw

I have more Jigs than anything and always use it in a tournament. The fish it catches are usually part of what I get to keep to weigh in!

Start with a finesse jig with a Falcon Lowrider and you'll be set! That's what I'm using at the moment and you feel every stump, rock, weeds etc.

If money is not an issue, choose the Cara over the Lowrider. Both are good rods, the Cara is just a level above the Lowrider.

This is good stuff. I have been trying to teach myself how to effectively use a jig. Thanks.

Try to hit wood every time you throw to a stump.

Maybe you couldn't feel the jig bites because of the difference in sensitivity of rods. Probably not the case. but could be

all i use is a finesse jig i build my own jigs and put the finesse skirts on them all on 3/4oz football heads to 1/4oz ball jigs.experimenting with them will be trial and error but when you find what you want and get confidence in it you will be blown away.

If you cant catch bass with a Jig try a more stout rod. The rod dictates the action and feel of the jig. 7ft + Med/Heavy. Jig is a staple in my tackle box. Works year round
