I've snapped owners on the hookset but never bent them... I use them because of that..

Are you sure they are owner hooks? I have heard of people buying hooks and replacing them with junk hooks and returning them to the store for a refund. I know this is unbelieveable but it happens. Ask any Academy store manager. Thats why I always order my hooks online. It doesn't guarantee it but I think it might be a better chance to get the real thing.

And worth the money IMHO But that's insane.

I don't plan on changing hooks and yes it was a owner that's all I fish with is owner hooks. It bothers me the fish got away and as clear as amistad is I never saw it. I only had about 35ft of line out when I swung for the fence.

I've never had an Owner hook bend or break on me. I've had Gamakatsu's bend and break on me, but never an Owner. I love both hooks, but those Owners are stout hooks. Maybe you hooked the Lochness Monster!

IVe had a bad string of owner hooks lately.. the 4/0's have been bending out on me on several occasions, i don't know if its someone replacing the hooks with junk hooks or not, but i know some of them have looked like owners.... a few weeks ago i set the hook on a fish at the Pines, felt like a good fish (nice and heavy) turned the reel about 1.5 times and pop she came off.. got the hook to the boat and it was bent out, brand new hook too, cuz i had just retied because the other hook had just bent out too... Finally had to grab a 5/0... SO i dunno if they have changed something or if its a bad batch or what...

I was on Amistad also last weekend and watched a Gar in Burro that would have went 200 easily, think he would straighten any hook out!
