Sounds rough Jeremy. It seems that it is always windy on canyon. Or I just have [censored] luck or bad planning and pick to fish in days with 15+mph winds.

went out in the yak yesterday and fished for about four hours. we started at the potters creek boat ramp and headed across the lake to fish the stumps. this was my first time out there and I have lived in the austin area my whole life, definately going to make it back out there soon. I caught two decent bass in the stumps on a rapala rattle trap that I got for two dollars at the bargain cave at cabelas.

I launched my kayak this morning from ramp 11 and paddled downriver 1.5 miles. Fished stumps and trolled crankbaits on the way down and the way back up. I managed 6 keeper crappie, one of those is a 13inch big momma, 1 female white bass, 1 striper, and a handful of cats and small lmb's. It was a gorgeous day to be on the water, no wind until around 1 or so. The spot I paddled down to before I turned around is just full of gar busting the surface. I have never seen so many gar in one area. Spoke with a gentleman fishing for crappie on his PB, he said he had good luck in the morning around the mouth of the river. Most of the crappie I caught were down river in the deeper water.

Nice report! You always seem to catch a nice mixed bag so you must be doing something right, and it makes for a perfect day on the water.
Just one more cast!

Hit the lake very late yesterday evening after an unproductive trip to Basspro shop. Long story. Temp showed 65 degrees and the water near the dam where we were fishing was very clear. Very few boats on the water late in the day. Used what was left of day light to hit a few spots. The brown creatures still appear to be in a pretty aggressive mood. Got them on spinner baits and plastics.

Fishing by the dam, Jesse? I am going to follow your advice and launch over on the north side by jacobs creek this week. What kind of soft plastic is that?

Caught that particular fish at North Park. Not 100 percent sure what my partner was using but I think it's a power worm, motor oil/chartreuse. He likes using the expensive stuff. I only use the cheap stuff.
I do not use the same lures or colors he does when it comes to plastics. He swears by motor oil color. I only throw green pumpkin.
I also do not like his choice of tail in that plastic either. In gin clear water, I only use hook tails or cut tail worms. A worm does not need all that flash bang in clear water. But hey, I would be looking pretty foolish with that advise considering he is catching fish (and so was I).
The water and water temp are perfect on Canyon right now. You don't need to really concern yourself with color or lure type in these great times. Tie on what you know how to use and what you think will catch a fish. You will do fine.
Once the water hits in the 80 degree range, Canyon will be a much different story.
If I was a yakker, I would not want to paddle so far as North Park from the closest ramp. Considering how many stupid people I observe on the lake, I actually think it would be dangerous to be in yak on Canyon. I would put in at the ramp at Tom's Creek and commence to pounding all the brush in that stretch of water. Tom's Creek is always one of the areas I frequent. It rarely disappoints.
Your mileage may vary.

Planning on heading out early in the morning to look for crappie and whites. I hope this cold front doesn't screw things up too much. I'm also worried about the wind being a factor. My 15 ft duck boat isn't a fan of big waves!

I launched my kayak out of ramp 11 on Tuesday. It was a nice day on the water. I paddled down river to my normal spot 1.5 or 2 miles down river. I caught two small whites trolling through the first stretch of deeper water and trees. I jigged minnows around the deeper trees and deeper water down river and managed 5 keeper crappie. I caught a few nice cats, again, if I were to not mind cleaning catfish I would have had a heavy stringer of fish. I also caught a few lmb drifting around the trees. Two of the keeper crappie were 13inches and had big ol bucket mouths. I caught these two drifting over what I believe is submerged brush, I do not have electronics to verify this though. I am not sure how the front will effect the fishing. I am sure it will be windy as hell, which it normally is for me. All in all it was a fun, hot day on the water.

Agree about the no pics. I need to purchase a waterproof camera of some sort. There is something I don't like about pulling out my iPhone sitting on top of a kayak on the water with a fish flopping around in one hand.

Launch at boat ramp 6 if u take 2673 into statzville then turn right on oblate 1.5 miles then turn right on robin hood and follow to boat ramp 6. You will see boat ramp signs along the way. When you get to boat ramp 6 that is the tom creek area. Launch boat and go right. You will see all of the standing timber from ramp. One of the most productive areas on the lake especially for bass. I live about 5 min from this ramp so I fish there all the time

We held our tournament in those horrid conditions last night, and I will report that although we didnt win, we caught several large stripers and several magnum white bass. The stripers were eating a jig with craw trailer that we were flipping around floating docks, and the white bass would hit a crankbait. The white bass were shallow in less than 5ft of water and around little sticks and brush right off the bank.
As far as black bass, well, I dont know what it is going on. Everyone of our Thursday tourneys has been just after a cold front, and we hear of 2 9's and an 11.9 being caught earlier in the week but nothing bites after the front except the dinks.
