I've hooked myself good once and my wife hooked herself in the thigh. Both times I pulled the hook to the point it raises the skin and then take a slim blade knife like a fillet knife and make a very small cut into the V where the barb is to release it. The hook pops right out with minimal pain. Beats yanking it or pushing it on through.
