We fished Bass Champs yesterday and I had a very interesting encounter on the water with another fisherman. As we were entering Horseshoe Bay which is accesible by 3 different entrances all which are very narrow canals if you have never been there. We were idling into a canal and saw a Tracker Pro 190 sitting in the middle of the channel didnt seem to be fishing the tournament and we needed to get around this gentleman if I should even call him that LOL. He had his boat smack dab in the middle of the canal casting to the shoreline on the right of the canal, so we pointed to the left and slowly tried idling around him, as we did this he spun his chair around and casted to the left. We appoligized and said we didnt think he was fishing that side of the creek and put the boat into reverse to go to the right, as soon as we were parrell with him, now on the right side of him he casted over our boat and started cussing us out as if he owned the entire creek channel. After we exchanged a few words I thought to myself long and hard were we right or was he right. I truly think we did nothing wrong as we were not trying to fish in his spot just trying to get into the channel to fish a pocket we had seen some big girls swimming around in!! We ended up catching all of our 3 keepers in that pocket along with losing a GIANT that swam right at me when I set the hook, I had no time to even get the rod tip in the water to keep her down. Hard pill to swallow when you cost your teamate a chance at a good check in Bass Champs. After a 4th place finish last yr we had high expectations this yr. Just wasn't meant to be!!
God bless and Tight Lines!!!

I would say you did nothing wrong. Kind of like someone standing in the middle of the road. You have to go around them somewhere or run over them.

I think this often happens any bottle neck like coves, canals, or boat lanes. had something similar yesterday Lewisville, boat was yelling at us and he was parked (prior to tournament start) at the narrow entrance to a cove that opens up. you could have legally had 2-3 boats in the back cove while he fished the opening.
If you are fishing a bottleneck you have to accept traffic, doesn't make it open to someone fishing your water, but someone HAS to pass through your water. More people need to take a stand and keep these blow hards from blowing, 1% causing 99% of the problems.

You did nothing wrong other than engaging in a verbal battle perhaps. His narrow minded self centered way of thinking will not change. It is best to ignore this kind of ignorance on the water. I guess you could have tried shutting down and drop the trolling motor and anounce you are just passing through. Seriously though I do not think it would have had different results.

I agree with shutting down and trolling past him assuming it was that tight back there.

I was just off the main lake in a long creek channel Friday bed fishing when a boat approached similar to your encounter.
There was no way this boater could pass and get by me unless I moved to one side which I recognize I must to do so others may pass.
I might ask someone wanting to troll past to pause just a few seconds if I am truly was getting bit at that very moment, but I moved over and I am going to always happily yield and move over and let them pass through (on their TM and not on idle if it is that narrow and/or shallow) if there are any fish-able waters that I am blocking.
You may have raised his ire by going through a narrow spot within his casting range stirring up a lot of canal settlement with your big motor it the canal was quite small and shallow. Best to TM it if occupied and it is that tight. Trolling is also better for any bedding bass with delicate fry on that side of a small creek also.
You mentioned you were in a tournament and the other man was not. That does not give you any more rights or him any less, but since you mentioned it, it tells us you may feel differently.

If it makes you feel better we were fishing a cove that was no more than 20 yards across by say 20 deep and had a boat come in ON PLANE past us to the back. He had the balls to give me a look when I fired my 10xd at him as he was heading in.
Had I been in my boat and not my partners it would have gone differently.
So to the fella in the red/white FX fishing with an older gentlemen in a teal/green rain suit id reccommend you avoid doing anything similar at Belton to the guy in the black and yellow skeeter; because it is not beyond me to spend the rest of the day following you around on principle alone.

On ivie last year I was fishing a rock point north of the dam. I was sitting of the drop and throwing up on the bank and cranking it down and off the ledge. Total distance from me to dry ground about 30 yards. I am sitting there making same cast over and over. Boat comes fishing down bank he fishes between me and bank, I have to stop casting, he then slows down and grinds on the point I was fishing 10 yards in front of me. When he is done he gives me a dirty look. Some times you just have to smoke a cig and count to 100. Now if someone is trying to guard an area I want to fish and there is room I will pressure enough to make them commit. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. My old partner used the term go f@&$&& yourself pretty regular but he was 6'5". I have to accept my limitations.
