I launched my kayak at ramp 11 before sunrise this morning. I paddled down a mile and a half or so towards the lake, made it around the big bend in the river and began fishing where the first couple houses are on the left hilltop. I was targeting crappie and thinking that they might be in the deeper trees, that is why I went this direction. Fished live minnows, and jigs tipped with crappie nibbles. I caught a leaking egg white bass, and two crappie within the first 10 minutes. Thought this might be my day, I was wrong. The wind picked up tremendously and made the fishing rather difficult. The wind was blowing back upriver so I drifted, jigging minnows at stumps the way back to the ramp. I manage to nail a few keeper crappie back close towards the entrance to the creek at the ramp. I ended up catching a mixed bag of 5 crappie, 1 white, 3 lmb, 1 cat and even had a alligator gar spit the hook right at the kayak. Tough day fishing, but at least it beats a day inside.

Has anybody fished canyon recently? Was wondering how the rain affected the water.

Wind was tough to deal with in Jon boat w/trolling motor only. Caught 4 bass on Tex rigs in about 4 hrs.

I took my kayak out of ramp 11 today and managed a handful of keeper crappie. All were caught on live minnows. I paddled downriver a mile or so, and then the wind became ridiculous so I turned back and fished on the way back to the ramp. I also caught 6 lmb, none larger than a pound or so. I was downriver around the big bend jigging a minnow against stumps in about 10-13 ft, my phone rang, I answered andI drifted away towards the middle of the channel. My ultra light got hit hard by something big, took line and busted off. It was definitely a fish, I fought it for a few seconds before it ran hard away from me. Stiper maybe? Big cat? Oh well...windy day, hard day fishing from a yak

I went out today out of ramp 11 on my kayak. Paddled down river around the big bend, big nice house on the cliff side is the area I was in. I caught two 22 inch stripers on my 6lb ultralight rod. Also caught a couple female whites and A few crappie. Also caught a handful of fat blue cats. I dont like to mess with cleaning cats, but these were all fatty keepers. I've been jigging minnows around the trees, targeting crappie, but these stripers intrigue me. Has anybody else ever caught any stripers upriver? Was wondering if this was a fluke incident or if stripers frequent the river channel. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I went out Sunday night. There was no moonlight at all and it was rough on the lake. I ended up in too shallow of water for my boat-1-2 feet. I have a hard time navigating up the river channel after dark and my phone navigation wasnt working. Tied up and fished for a few hours and caught a small bass. Night was a bust but I made the most of it. Got soaked on the boat ride back.
