I was at the barge Monday night from 7:30pm until 11pm and caught 26 sandies. I saw 4 hybrids caught too. I heard the crappie were biting after I left.

I went last night from 7:30 until about 1am... it was very windy and the sandies were good but not as good as monday night... no hybrids. the wind finally let up but once it did the fish stopped biting... crappie were slow but the ones that i did see were nice.

Were you fishing jigs or minnows?

I was using Black Night and Watermelon Wine jigs by Bobby Garland. Tonight I used both minnows and jigs. I had the minnow about 4feet deep off of a slip bobber and couldnt' keep enough minnows on it. I caught 12 nice sized keeper sandies and probably 40 or more babies. I also caught a large mouth and lost 2 hybrids.

Yeah... mike gets to "slackin" on his reporting duties sometimes. I guess he doesn't realize that there are some of us that check this report multiple time throughout the day while he is sleeping or whatever it is he does. sleep

Update:

Worked the last two mornings. The bite was very very good! On crappie. Every one had nice stringer when they left. The AM bit is picked up really nice! Big one are coming in. Saw a bunch over 1.60 and even saw a 2.06!!!! Getting them shallow at night 2-10'. And 8-18' in the day time.

Sand bass good as always. Hybrids. Getting 2-5 a day.

All crappie but 1 sand bass.

John Howell got his limit but gave away 4 if the 10 and 1/16 fish.
That's his 2nd limit this year on crappie at the barge!

the past few times I have been confused... I see people with jigs on their line but they just let them sit in the water maybe twitching um once every 5 to 10 minutes... does that method actually work I always figured crappie prefer live moving target and not targets that sit still what is the thought process behind this?

Its not about how deep you can fish but by how you wiggle your worm

It's called dead sticking. Some ppl like to fish like this. The other way is just to hold the jig still. As the water is getting warmer try like more action on the jig. And some ppl will put a jig on top and the a minnow on bottom the minnow will work the jig for them.

And the barge is always moving a little bit so it gives it some action too.
