I believe the only definite way to determine if it is a pure Florida strain is to do a DNA test. That's correct.

I actually caught it on the mexican side of falcon lake, I guess that makes it a mexican bass huh?

Since its a Texas fish I'd say it has at least some florida genes in it. Article posted on here earlier today from some biologists says you can't tell the difference without genetic testing.

Yeah I kinda figured that, just posting to make sure... I have however seen people saying that bass which look a certain way are florida bass! I guess they're just going with what their gut tells them! Anyways, thanks everyone!

There are more specifics to determine for sure. Only true way is by testing them. Most in Texas waters today have some strain of Florida bass in them.
