I caught one nice striper. Went up there trying to catch some nice crappie in the marina. Not a single sandy or crappie but I did get a few nibbles. Late in the evening I caught a few smallmouth bass. Quite a bit of fun on the crappie pole but not what I was looking for. Water temps were 53 in the shallow but 49 as you got past the marina. I think it's too cold for anything but stripers. Caught the striper on a white crank bait

Smallmouth, hey that's great!! I would go up there just to get into some of them. I used to fish for them when I live closer to Whitney, fished at night and it was a hoot during the summer heat.

broke the tip off of my brand new crappie pole. Nothing fights like a smallmouth.

Skunked! Found plenty of bait and a few fish. Had three bites, all in the morning. Fished with artificials. Drifted, deadsticked, tried everything. Even went after some crappie. No go there either.

Headed back to Joe pool tomorrow to catch a mass of sandies to redeem myself. Between me my son and my 79 yr old grandfather we still had an awesome day despite the lack of fish. Been trying to spend as much time with my grandfather as I can. He is still in good health and I want to make the most of it.

Still time well spent with your grandfather. Been without mine for a number of years now.

Tried from cedar bayou to Highport. I'd suggest live shad. Most of the willing fish seemed to be west of 377. Wish I could offer more advice. Maybe someone will chime in that caught something today. Who knows it could be acfree for all tomorrow, that's fishing. Good luck.

Glad to see ya catching a few paddling oars. Should have left the boat at home and joined ya on the bank and share a few brews with ya. Western just remembered I found some some sandies and stripers in mill creek. Using my finder I could get em to chase my fluke but would not bite. Maybe some live shad would have been the ticket. Even seen a big orange celebrity in that area.

Bet live shad was the ticket. Both days I had fresh 8" gizzards come to shore. And they had to be catching cuz they kept coming back, morning trips and evenings. wink
