Just started using the Albright knot. I like it so far. I like the Albright too, but you must take your thumbnail to the braid to scrape off the slick outer coating for a better knot. Otherwise, it might slip. A knot failure at the leader just sucks. The Albright is a smoother knot going through the guides and stronger than the uni to uni, but you have to tie it right!

I think you're right about the smoothness of the knot profile. But that aside, and as far as strength and ease of tying, the uni to uni is a solid choice. I use leaders all the time in all kinds of conditions and I have never had a uni to uni fail. Can't make the claim with other knots I've tried but I'm sure those failures had a lot to do with my lack of skill at knot tying.

Check out the Red Phillips Knot on youtube. It's the best I've found for joining braid to mono or floro without a swivel. It's smaller than most other knots.

This is the best for me although I also tie the surgeons knot. The surgeons is simple and strong. The best knot is one that is both strong and also goes through the guides easily. Some knots like the surgeons, albright and uni end up with the tag ends coming out the ends of the knot. These knots all make strong contact with the guides as they go by. The blood knot is easy with mono to mono but a little harder to tie with braid to mono but when tied it ends up with the tag ends coming out the middle of the knot. By trimming off the tag ends close to the knot you end up with a knot that does not hit the guides as hard as some of the others. When I am fishing braid for shakey heads I use a leader that is from 4 to 6 feet long. The blood knot is the best for this that I've found.

PR knot is easily the best braid to mono/flouro knot that is also very castable. I don't think it is worth the effort for bass fishing though and I just use a uni to uni. It takes practice to learn to tie the PR knot and even if you are good at it, you will need five minutes. It is very popular for pelagic species fishing.
