Thanks Doug for the comparison photos. Maybe it's just a personal preference but I really like how the competitor has so much stuff labeled. However, I do like LM's coloring. It makes it easier to see the changing depths. Is that the HB default settings?
I did see on another post that someone noticed their Navionics App showed more labels than their Navionics premium chip showed on their HB. So maybe ill just keep my LM chip. The price is better than Navionics anyways.

If you can swing it, running both maps is the way to go. I have a smaller 7 series in back running LM and it's strictly for navigation. The bigger unit uses Navionics.

Mtn: The web viewer wont show the colors for road beds and creek channels. Thats only on a plotter design to show that particular feature. There are more things coming though both for the web app and also for the iphone. stay tuned and btw thank you for the help in the forum with giving information to others. good stuff on fair comparisons.

I too run both maps,LM on a dedicated Lowrance gps unit and Nav on the HB's both has features I like, I can get in the ballpark with LM and fine tune it with Nav. also run boatlanes software on both, only for backup purposes use the Lowrance for all main navigation

I just got the Lakemaster chip for my 898. Overall I am very impressed. I don't know if the Navionics chip was old or what, but it didn't have ANY details or features identified, including roads, creek beds etc. LM has a lot.
One thing I am suprised at, when I zoom into the last two zoom levels the lines become very course looking instead of the thin smooth lines that were at the higher levels. I dont remember ever seeing this on any of the Navionics levels. Is this normal?
Also I was on Grapevine yesterday using it for the first time and tried to find the foundation thats by the island shown in one of the posts above, I didnt see it on the SI. I only made one pass and the lake is so low it should almost be out of the water. Maybe it filled in with silt by now.

Take a look at features and coverage areas. I love the LakeMaster Exclusive features like Water Level Offset, Depth Highlight, Shallow Water Highlight, and many others help me customize the map to my needs.

If you are comparing maps be aware that not all maps look the same on all units. The latest Navionics Premium chip looks great with 1ft contours and creeks and road beds when used on HDS units but creeks and roadbeds are missing on the Elite7. Even with the new software upgrade.
