I have though about doing this but, how do you deploy the trolling motor into the water when it is launched off the trailer. I can not launch mine with the trolling in the down position.

id be worried about the ipilot being damaged by the trailer during the offload...but it would be a cute trick!

Let's see: Back trailer on to ramp, get in boat, back boat off trailer and to the dock, deploy I-pilot, get out of boat, send boat out to staging area, park truck, walk to dock, I-pilot boat back to dock.

What's the point of all that? Why not tie the boat to the dock, go park the truck, untie the boat, then take off? Sounds kinda old school but it's worked forever.

I use my I-Pilot to keep it off the dock when I find myself in three different scenarios:
1 – When the courtesy dock is full of boats.

2 – When the courtesy dock is full of people fishing (next to the signs that say “No fishing from courtesy dock”).

3 – When there is a strong wind blowing into the dock. That way, IF there was an electrical malfunction the wind would blow the boat back to me rather than away.

I tried it once and it worked great for me. I have noticed from time to time the GPS does lose signal or maybe thought something wasnt set right on the controll. Anybody else have the stoplock stop from time to time.

I have thought about this ALOT!!! Especialy since I mainly fish by myself. It would work great except I would be the one that runs my boat into some rocks or hit another boat trying to get it back to me. Guess I need a little more practice driving with the iPilot smile

I've had mine lose spotlock a few times but I think it's from me hitting a button on the remote unknowingly. Now when I'm "anchored" I take the remote off my neck and I haven't had a problem since.

i have my boat in a slip, the end of A Dock, Harbor Bay. I move it around with my remote as needed. The only real complaint I have is my spotlock tends to overshoot. No doubt, it is one of the best tools I have ever owned for fishing and I preddate Fish Master's radial Fish finder!

That was one of the first things I tried. The one other thing that works great is the deploy feature (my grandson Jake in the front is my seat deploy on demand. Sometimes his fuse breaks and I have to go to the front of the boat.

I have lost spot lock too. It happens to me frequently on cloudy days and when I am near bridge/docks. I changed my battery thinking it was low before.

I will have to agree that Ipilot is almost as good as sliced bread.

Do you know what dirty sox smells like?

Larry, if your boat is parked on your driveway you can test this right now. Just halfway deploy the TM or you can adjust the neck collar to a safe depth without touching the trailer. Then back as far as you can and power on/off, rotate, etc. Let us know how far you can go before the signal weaken. Give a full study report! Your previous owner should have told you all this plus more. grin

My boat is that the storage too far for me to test this.
