Never bring a knife to a gunfight. If you wanna kill a snake make sure you bring a 44 mag., AR-15, a Barret 50. cal sniper rifle. If the snake survives that a hand grenade should be the ticket. DEATH 2 DEM SNAKES! rolfmao

I had a big Water Moccasin come right at me while I was in a tube. I discarded my pole and immediately reached for my Glock 9mm. I shot at it 10 or 12 times and hit it a once or twice. It was like being in a war zone with water flying and semi-auto gun fire. I nearly gave the other guys fishing around me heart attacks and my ears rang for about 2 weeks. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I also ran over a Copperhead on my mountain bike before. It was pretty intense (no Glock handy this time). I used the brakes to lock up my rear wheel and just tore him up. He didn't dig it. I generally fish ponds but haven't had a close encounter in a while (lots sightings though). I have had rockclimbed all over Texas and have NEVER seen a snake (thank god!).

Pellet gun. Problem solved. I have had game wardens move my pellet gun to check my floatation devices.

If you are putting 12 rounds into the water to kill a snake, you are more dangerous than the snake.

Kat ....you sure got that right....nothing like a bunch of ricochets from from a frightened tenderfoot to make every one feel safe.

Except for a stint as a Lake Officer several years ago, I've never carried a firearm in a boat. Used a paddle, rod, or net handle on several occasions to ward off slithery critters. Some were funny, although my brother-in-law didn't seem to think so, and some were not funny (like finding the Wtr Moc under the seat AFTER leaving the dock). banana banana banana
