While we are all showing the love for flouro, thought I'd mention my lack of same for split grips. Of all the things to come down the pike, the split grip rod is the one that I never thought would last. Must be my old school upbringing but I'll take a less sensitive, more heavy, and less stylish full cork handle every time. Just feel that something isn't quite right (girly) griping that skinny part with my bottom hand. rolfmao

Do you love them or hate them?

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Hate them! I am never holding the rod where I can feel the split in the handle. I never got the purpose.

I agree. I have one split grip (all cork) rod and the rest are full cork. It is a little depressing to me when I go to Cabelas and look at rods that very few are still full cork. It appears that the rod mfgs are moving fully towards split grip. I guess I'll just have to quit fishing when full cork is all gone and all that is left is flouro line.......:-)

I like split grip better they weight less. They are more accurate to cast, look better, and are a more comfortable grip. I can still feel the fish just fine. A good quality rod is much more important to me than split or solid grip.

I don't mind the split grip I have. I am just used to the full cork and don't see the need to completely go away from it. I do prefer the cork on the split grips in lieu of the synthetic if forced to split grips.

As for lighter, I am a big guy and a few ounces don't affect my buying decision. We always settle these minor debates by saying "everyone has their preference". Only problem is that rod mfgs are completely taking the decision out of our hand by not making our preference anymore. (I am really speaking towards my preferred rod, the Crucial)

Do not like them and as far as the weight issue goes - well them old boys must not have had to throw much hay off the trailer to the loft

Love the split grips. Especially for rods I'm making long casts with.

MY problem with split grips is that I have big hands and they just dont feel right, maybe if they made the grip behind the reel a little longer I may try them again

I hate slip joint pliers but I love needle nose pliers. But I have both to accomplish the REQUIRED JOB. Split Grip handles have their place. I do not prefer them on the bigger longer rods. To me they tend to take away from the "feel" of strength and power. But for the smaller crank rods they work fine.

I have 1 full cork and it feels super awkward in my hand now after throwing split grips for so long. It feels like I'm holding a bat. Split grip for me.

I think the mfgs are just saving a few bucks.

I'm not a fan, though I own a few (Vendettas). The rod themselves I like, but if I'm chucking a crank all day they start to blister my hands (since I tend to cast 2 handed).

However, they do look cool. Thats what bass fishing is all about, right? wink
