I'd like to hear some reports on the new HDS 12 Touch. Not something from the Lowrance website or even prostaff people but, someone that actually bought one and installed it themselves and used it awhile. I was a long time Lowrance guy until recently when I changed from an HDS 8 with LSS-1 to Humminbird and considering swithing back to the new Touch. If it matters, I only fish crappie from an 18' Lund boat. Sure would appreciate some feedback and thanks in advance!

I have a 12 and am very happy with it. Loses bottom once in a while and you have to reboot but Lowrance says there's an update coming next month to take care of it. I have it ethernet connected to my HDS7 Gen 2, using a LSS2 transducer. I just moved the LSS2 to a better location and can get side and down scan images up to 14mph. I usually scan at around 3mph though. It's in my opinion the fastest reacting fish finder I've ever used. You hit the screen to make your choices and bam, it's doing it. Very easy to use and the screen resolution is insane good. You can see fingerprints on the screen when you turn the unit off but while it's running you can't. Installation was a joke easy. I run mine at the 800 frequency because it will bump heads with the Humminbirds and really like. Have tested it on 455 and it's even better.

Thanks Diel, that is an awesome configuration you have there! Do you plan to keep all three units mounted as shown? If so, why? Comparing the HDS12 and the HB 1198 side by side should answer any questions about which has better resolution. Are the transducers side by side too? Any chance you could take pics showing the side by side comparison of something underwater so we can really see the differences?

I know I am keeping the HDS12 for sure, and I use the HDS7 for navigation mostly. Kept the 1198 and 998 on the bow for the 360 and Ipilot Link but the 360 is dead right now and the I pilot link can't handle a spot lock. That being said, the other features on the Link work well and the navigating between waypoints with it is awesome.
If everything works out with Humminbird I might keep the set up. Can tell you it's super easy to get lots of information at a glance with it. I set the HDS12 on downscan, HDS7 on Navionics, 1198 on 360 or side imaging.
Transducer for the 1198 is on the starboard side of the transom, skimmer for the Lowrance is on the port side, LSS2 is in the pocket by the drain plug. 998 SI transducer is on the trolling motor. Might be going out on the lake Tuesday so I'll take some pics.

Looking to purchase a new LSS-1 transducer, cut my cable. Bass pro was out of stock, any TFF sponsors or members have one to sell.

Diel, that's one heck of a set up you have there. How do you keep the battery from going dead half way through the day?
Cajun, good luck on the search. The lss1's are hard to find, check eBay alot.
Okie, I have a 12" Touch on order and it should be here in a few days. I'm going to try and compare it to the lss1 before I tear it all apart and rebuild it. I'm interested how much better the 2 actually is.

For sure man, hahahaha. I have two cranking batteries with a main switch so if anything goes weird I just switch over.

I got a quote of $2,980 plus $249 for the transducer.

Okie, I'll send it by pm. Don't want anybody getting offended.
I already have the lss1 and have liked it, hopefully the 2 has a bit better detail and width. Not sure about the touch yet, might take me some getting used to. I played with one at bass pro and I'm def better on my gen 1 & 2, just take some time to learn I suppose.

Appreicate the PM Grout. I have a Gen 1 HDS 8 on my older boat that I'm getting ready to sell. Changed to HB on my newer boat and regret it. I played with the Touch at BPS also and didn't find it difficult to operate at all, in fact, easier to use the the older HDS's. Didn't spend enough time on it to tell if any features were elimuinated withe the Touch but I doubt it did. I really like the screen size with loss of all the push buttons....

I have an HDS7 and HDS8 linked with an ethernet cable. The HDS7 (on the front) shows water temp even when the HDS8 is the source. HDS8 never shows water temp. Any idea why that is? Extremely frustrating. Thanks.

I'm very familiar with ethernet but, clueless when talking about NEMA protocol. Why use NEMA vs ethernet? Advanages/disadvantages?
