Does this machine somehow give you the proper alignment automatically? How many sides of the point will it sharpen? Seems to me it's always most difficult to sharpen on the inside bend of the hook. What is the advantage of this system over hand sharpening with a good stone, aside from it being motorized?

Not bashing it at all, just curious about it with sincere interest.

Being a point maker owner for some years now, personal experience has shown the benefit of dressing up hooks that come out of the package, sometimes. By performing the "fingernail test" it can quickly be determined if a hook meets your specifications. Every person is different, and each has their own likes and dislikes. If the hooks aren't sharp enough, this appliance will make the job of correcting the point easy. If you happen on a bulk sale of hooks, and they turn out to not be that sharp, then you can have a lot of work to do. It's not for on the water touch ups. It is great for at home dressing of all of your hooks. Crank bait hooks get dull with use. Spinner baits and jigs likewise. Many hooks get reused every time we go to the lake. I check my tackle hooks before every tournament, and those that need it are sharpened. My point maker is 10+ years old. As simple as it looks and is, it really does the job well. My advice for new owners would be to practice on some really old hooks you don't use any more, so you will have the technique down before you tackle the new hardware. Hope this helps. Feel free to email me.
