Where can u buy seals only? Time to do work but bearings and races look fine. Gotta trip to fork planned and need to take care of it before we go. I couldnt find the right bearings at autozone or academy. Guess i will check a trailer place tomorrow. Any suggestions appreciated.

They even had a rare 1.68" ID seal. They ship pretty quick too. Only downside is that their 'experts' are limited. They do not have a cross reference for trailer manufacturers, so you either need your old part number, know what you are looking for, or do your own research to determine the part specs.

If you happen to have a commercial Bearing supply house in your area, they can measure one of your old seals and match it up.

Newbie needing some advise here. I have a 16' 1984 boat trailer. I just pulled bearings and they have a little rust on them. I'm going to replace them but the local auto shops aren't carrying the Timken brand. Does the manufacture matter as far as quality? They are "Timken l44643la".

I had a problem of blowing out my tires on every trip to the lake I'd lose blow a tire. A friend of mine said your might want to take your trailer to a trailer shop and have them measure your axle to see if it on right. I thought this could be the case so to a trailer shop I went and had them to see if the axle was on correct and lord and be hold it was 1/4 off on one side. Replaced the axle and the blowing the tires has stopped and a lesson well learned. Just a suggestion.

Had my bearings repacked a week ago, now I'm seeing grease on the inside of the wheels. From what I've read in this thread (read all of it), the tech put in too much grease through the BB and the seal has blown. So, now I need to redo the bearings right. Can you recommend a shop in the North Dallas area?

Are bearing buddy supposed to squirt grease from the front? They will if you over fill them.

This thread has a lot of good info. I'm just an average weekend fisherman with maybe 2 trips a year that run over 300 miles. I just want to share a few things I've learned after having nightmares with my Superlube Hubs/spindles for almost 3 years. I have one hub/spindle that would blow the seal about every other trip and there would be water in the hub every time. I finally figured out that the hole between the seal and inner bearing that the grease comes out of was too close to the seal. I was seating my seals flush. I must have gone through 6 or 8 seals on that one. Now I seat my seals .040 from flush and problem solved however the water was still getting in. A bead of silicon around the rubber plug fixed that one. I've also found that you cant always count on the junk we get for bearings and races to be any good. Its my opinion that to get good life out of your bearings you need to clean and repack a new set of bearings after about 500 to 750 miles just to get all the loose metal and rough spots out that the Chinese left in there. Especially check the races for wear. I've seen as much as .010-.020 wear after only about 500 miles on new races. Always take out as much grease as you put in when pumping in new grease. I've been problem free for almost 2 years now.
YOU HAVE TO CHECK THEM. I've seen 2 boats burn to the ground on the highway from bad bearings.

I burned up two hubs in a year with the " Boat Buddies ". Replaced axle and two new hubs from Lucas marine hubs. They have an incredible warranty, used it when one started slinging grease. Replaced the cap and seal at no charge. I did the labor. The Lucas marine grease is awesome and the hubs leave me fearless on the road.
After 10 trips to the lake the grease shows no signs of water in it.
I don't work with Lucas. After having a tow truck bring my boat home the last time I decided that would be the last time.
Fish on!!
