Lake Austin Fishing Guide Service Report February 2013
ww.LakeAustinFishing.com

Hello Fishing Fans,

We are a little late this month getting our report out, as today is February 19. But, with that being said, fishing has been a roller coaster ride the past two weeks. Earlier this month Central Texas got a warm front that lasted a week, we literally broke heat records daily. The water temp at Lake Austin hit 62-63 and the first wave of females hit the shallows to spawn. Well, they must not watch the 10 day forecast because no sooner than they moved up to do their deed, the temps dropped below freezing therefore dropping the water temp to mid 50s. So every time we seemed to have a pattern going, we could just throw it out the window. This time of year can be like that.

Yesterday, February 18, Brians clients (Mike Spradlin & Laynce Nix) caught two fish over 9 pounds. Both fish of course were classic pre spawn and full of eggs. They had several other fish in the 2-4 lb range, including a beautiful smallmouth. Congratulations to Mike on his new personal best & Laynce with his second best ever. The winning pattern was fishing soft plastics and jigs in 10-20 foot. We like to fish our Santone jigs and soft plastics on a Custom Angle Rod 76 Heavy action. There is still some grass in the lake and this rod has a parabolic bend to fish lighter line, but the backbone to get big fish moving away from docks and grass. Dont forget a few Santone jigs and Swim jigs as well, these baits will catch toads and have the hook to handle anything.

If you decide to come out and try your luck on Lake Austin, the best advice we can give is to be ready for a pattern change very quickly. The 10 day forecast is calling for the nights in the 50s and the days in the 70s. We have a feeling there will be a huge wave of fish moving up by Sunday, if the weather holds up. Dont forget your Costa Del Mar sunglasses for sight fishing. Costa Del Mar 580s in Blue Lens for sunny days and 580s in Green / Amber lens for early morning, cloudy days and late evening. Dont be afraid to fish the lower end of the lake, as this water has more color to it and will warm up quicker than the upper end. This time on Lake Austin can give you your personal best day of bass fishing or it can leave you cursing. Stay focused right now because the big ladies are in the process of feeding up for the spawn.

We still have availabilities for spring trips on beautiful Lake Austin. But, they are booking quickly, so call early to book your date. Contact Brian @ 817-808-2227 & Clint @ 903-918-9469 or email us at lakeaustinfishing@yahoo.com. **Please note that Clint & Brian are trophy hunters and power fishermen. We can and will downsize to finesse tactics, per your request, but our guide service is tailored so that you have the best shot at the fish of a lifetime.

We would like to thank our following sponsors, Custom Angle Rods, Santone Lures, Costa Sunglasses & Boca Bearings.

Guys, if you get the chance to fish with these guys jump all over it. I fished with Clint a couple of times and he will work his butt off to put on the fish of a lifetime, and you will catch em. I haven't fished with Brian yet, but did get a chance to meet him at cabelas a couple of weeks ago. He was a stand up guy and took time to visit with me for a while, even though he had to make it back to Austin that night.

I just met Clint and Brian this past weekend. They are two of the nicest guys I have met in a while, and that really matters, in my opninion! I would definitely recommend booking a trip with them.

I believe so. Lake Austin is a constant level lake.

Correct, LA is a constant level lake.

I just found out that I now have Sunday open (2/24/13). I'm not sure if Brian is open or not, if so, we can handle up to 4 clients. If anyone is interested, give us a shout.

I had a great day with Clint Wright today on Lake Austin. Such a beautiful lake, no wonder it produces so many giants. We didn't catch any share lunkers, but we had about 30 bites on what most will call a tough day. We only saw a few other fish caught and reports were a few fish here and there. We grinded for those bites all day and they were a challenge to hook. If you are looking to experience one of the hottest big fish lakes in Texas right now reach out to Clint and Brian.

I hate that you didn't get a big fish Rob, but they are DEFINITELY there and waiting to make someone's day! Glad you enjoyed your trip and hope to see you again soon.

Clint and I do have some open dates for March. Please contact Clint or I at lakeaustinfishing@yahoo.com to see what's available and let's go trophy hunting at one of the premier bass fishing jewels in the beautiful hill country.
