I fish with Gloomis, St Croix, and Falcon. The Falcon Cara is my favorite. For fly rods, I fish Sage.

All my rods are shimano's, can't complain about them. The warranty is good. You can walk in and swap it out at the counter no questions asked. They're also technique specific which is nice if you're a bass fisherman like myself.
Really excited about my custom crankbait rod that Walker Nelson is building me and hope to eventually have all my rods be made by him. You can't really beat having a rod made specifically for what application and baits you plan to use, IMO.
Swimbaits Only.

I fished Falcons for years. For a mass produced rod they are quality IMO. Now I build my own rods using Rainshadow RX7 and RX8 blanks.
Action of a rod is a big factor in determining brand I think. For example, Castaway rods seem to have a moderate to slow action. Too limber for my liking. Others might like that. I need a rod with some back bone. Fast action or moderate fast. Falcon always felt right when setting the hook. The Falcon Lowrider 7'6" was always my favorite.

When I was heavy into tournament fishing back in the 70's I built my own rods using Fenwick blanks and only have 1 left after hurricane Ike. Later in 80's I started leaning toward off the rack rods and really became impressed with Berkley's Cherrywood HD 7' rods medium action. In the late 90's I got into the low profile reels and slipped into Falcon Originals 7' medium weight and own 2 plus 1 Low Rider 7' medium action. The Original is my "go to" inshore and lake rod. It handles slot reds, trout and LMB nicely and has the tip and action that lets me cast all day without wearing me out with arm sling.
I have some of the others like 1 Abu graphite, and a few other graphites I can't remember right now but they are in reserve and not often used except as loaners.
Still got the Cherrywoods and use them a lot off the beach with the older Abu reels.
I never use a rod under 7' in the yak so I can reach around the bow when the fish decides to change sides.

Walker does build a great rod and they look awesome! All you'll need to do is get a Dobyns 704cb glass blank if you can get one and have him build you a custom rod! It's one heck of a blank and you can add all the bling to it you need!!!!

All I used were falcons for years and years and when they pretty much removed their warranty I started replacing the broke rods with shimanos since they are over the counter no fault warranties.
I need to get by the TFO store and check theirs out as well.
My cat rods are all pro anglers now except 2 and I will be replacing those this year. I used to swear by ugly sticks for this kind of fishing but have much better control with the pro angler rod.

For me, it's whatever is on sale. I usually buy rod/reel combos that would cost between $15.99 to $24.99. My last pair of $15.99 rod/reel 5'6" light action combo lasted pretty long until the tips broke on them, but both were my fault mishandling during loading/unloading & getting frustrated with a snag. After that, I bought expensive to me replacement rods that were $34 each. I still have both my $19.99 samurai 6'6" med action rod/reel combo by daiwa & both my $24.99 9' medium action surf rods for bank fishing. I've caught fish on all of them from sunfish to sandies to stripers to lmb's to catfish to hybrids...yada yada yada. Caught the most fish on my light action rods. I would put my rods up against any expensive brand out on the market. It's not the rod, it's the person holding the rod. I'll second this!!! EXACTLY my opinion as well. The most I've ever spent on a rod is $19.99.

I used Falcons for years, but recently I've tried a few different brands. 4 of my last 5 rods have been Trinity Custom Rods, and they will get my business now. In fact, I have a 20 year old 7' med casting rod that I like for squarebills, and Charner recently put a new grip, reel seat and guides on it for me. You wouldn't believe the difference it made. THAT'S customer service!
