I think i will be doing that. And i will keep a bungee cord handy to wrap around the Umbrella when its not spread out to keep it secure.

You can also drill a hole and put one of those clip pins in it like in my picture. Gonna take a pretty good wind to take my fat arse into the water by blowing on that umbrella.

monster crappie... those sound great. I think what everyone else on this thread including myself means is we have built an inexpensive umbrella holder that suits our needs and works for us. I never have more than one other angler on my boat, we never have a problem tripping over the pvc or banging our heads on umbrellas.
However, yours looks and sounds great. I have as yet found a price for what you are advertising. Would you share that info?
