A couple questions about the shaky head set up:
1) is there a rule of thumb as far as what type of shaky head to use (round, flat bottom, etc) 2) any rule of thumb as far as the weight of the shaky head? 3) what baits seem to work best? Is it more efficient fishing with a shaky head worm or is there something that is just as effective to make the fish bite?
Thanks for your input!

1) Personal preference
2) Match to line size you use and depth you plan to fish.
3) Take an icechest, aquarium, whatever and try some various baits on them and see how you like the action. You will see which bait have good bouyancy and action, using various retrive techniques. Tons of opinions on this. Grande Bass Rattlesnakes, Haggs Tornados, Lake Fork Ring Frys, etc...
If you can see the action by trying various baits, you will likely have more success just by fishing what you're most confident in from your experiment.

Any favorite type of shaky head?
And is it better to have them match the bait you put on it?

I prefer a 1/8 oz.Strike King round head finese jig. I don't go heavier unless the wind makes me. My favorite worms are a 4" LFT Hyper worm or a Zoom finese worm but I also catch a lot of bass in the warm/hot months using a Zoom U-tale (curly tail) worm on the same jighead. Green pumpkin is a good color.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I really like the spot remover head for fishing anything but grass they seem to work well. They are a light wire hook so you don't need to come out of your shoes to set the hook. If you are throwing heavy line and setting the hook like you are flipping you are gonna straighten them out. But on spinning gear with a sweeping hook set the are awesome. I really like to find a worm that will float like said above. It just helps with the action. It won't take you long to fall in love with this method.

Hard to beat 1/8 oz shaky head paired with a zoom trick worm (scuppernong). Setup depends on weight spinning gear for the light stuff is a must. Anything over 3/8 go to a bait caster.

I throw mine on a 1/8 oz Spot Remover Pro hook and a Zoom Trick worm in green pumpkin 95% of the time. Might throw watermelon in clearer water.
I just caught 14 bass in 1.5 hours yesterday on this set up. Probably one of my best shakey head days.
Don't hesitate, get out there and throw one now...you'll be glad you did!

The green pumpkin powder coated 1/8 spot remover pros and the plain lead 3/16 owner shakey heads. I prefer the zoom trick worm in green pumpkin, pumpkin candy and watermelon red. Sometimes I like to dip the tail in chart. Spike-it

I use a 1/8 or 3/16 Owner Ultrahead Shaky. Zoom trick worms or shaky head worms work great. Experiment with different colors and lengths and the bass will tell you what they want!
Tight lines and God bless.
