Euphobia and I paddled the Yegua out of Nails State Park boat ramp today. We fished it hard and slow all the way past big pipes with only 3 whites for 7 hours. It seemed like the flow was up a little from last week as well as maybe a 1 1/2 inch rise, also I think the lake is up 2 or 3 inches. I talked with 4 bank walkers and they had 2 fish for the 4 of them. Light winds with great temps made things comfortable and enjoyable. I'll return only after we get some rain...Lawton.

Dang Yegua.. kicks up so few fish sometimes it ain't funny... My last trip wasn't too bad fished for about three hours and brought home 8 I think, caught about 6 others that were too small. The boys walked the banks at the same time down from Newmans but only picked up a couple.. slow slow slow.. I might head up Birch creek this weekend if I get the chance.. lake level hasn't changed in weeks holding right around 236.33 see: http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/reports/fish.htm

Wade fished birch creek park yesterday with very little luck caught two white bass one of which was full of eggs and a male also caught one gasper goo and a couple of cats off of pencil minnows.Light winds made fishing tough. I haven't been walking the creeks cause it seems there not a lot going on just can't wait for them to really bite and people start getting there limits.

Birch Creek was pretty good to me today especially considering how late I got on the water. Fishing took a back seat to nature watching but I still managed 5 crappie 2 black bass, 2 catfish, 2 drum and one big buffalo that took me for a spin... Gave away the 3 keeper crappie I had on the stringer. I saw some folks closer to the lake catch a few crappie out of the deeper bends in the creek but left about the time the fishing should have picked up. It was a beautiful day to be alive in Texas! Next Saturday I'll be back on the Yegua looking for crappie and whites, any of you-all joining me?

Mid-lake report...
Launched out Big Creek. Fished the point there. Not much activity noted on the sonar. Then saw some big Hybrids hugging the bottom. Proceeded to loose one slab after I finally hooked one. Didn't land him. The little bity snap swivel gave way. My fault there. Went to Rocky next. Fished the Tires. Saw 2 yaks coming towards me from the point. Told them where the fish were at but they said thanks and kept going. Put in at 3:20, left at 5:40 with 18 WB, one decent LMB. Water temp 61. Most fish caught in 6-9 ft. Depth. Rattle Trap style lures.
P.B. May 2009 Columbia River, just west of Camas, Washington 9ft. 4"

Ben, thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it. I've never fished Birch Creek before, but would really like to one of these days. What time are you fishing Saturday? I will probably join you.
I may actually head out there tomorrow if I can walk. I ran the Austin Marathon today so the legs are going to be a tad sore for the next few days. The nice thing is fishing from a kayak I wouldn't have to do much walking, but the part where you have to drag the yak over that mud is going to hurt. I'll report back if I go.

I get the impression that the fish in Birch creek are in the first mile up from the lake other then the last big pool way up there!

Well hate to hear how slow this years run has been. Hopefully all the rain this week will get them moving. For now, I'll be heading up to the Neches and Lake Palestine. It's a river so the low levels of the water has very little effect on the run there as the water is always moving.

Saturday's kayak fishing tour of the Yegua is taking shape and it appears the weather is going to be good...

Big Creek. When the "Southernly's" start very soon he will not be able to put it out by the Tires/Marina. 10ft. Couldn't get the pick of him towing it back to his RV. Stupid finger...
