Well here is how the day went at Newmans today. Got there at sun up and made the long walk downstream to my honey hole. Well lets just say there was no honey in the hole today only 1 fish there. At about 11:30 decided I had enough and my son and I fished our way back to the truck. We ran into some guys about 300 yards downstream of the bridge and they had about 7 or 8. They were moving and they pointed to a spot and said that some guy limited out there. Well I said let's give it a try. After about 5 minutes I caught one. Then it was almost cast after cast until I got to seven. Then it quit and caught 2 more with about 30 minutes between bites. This will be the last trip for me until it rains and gets the lake up to pool. Here is the pics of my catch.

Based on the catches I saw and the reports I heard, you did better than most if you caught eight fish. That's exactly eight more fish than I caught today. Fished Nails Creek and had one bite all day long. Still got to meet and talk with a lot of nice people though. Thanks for putting another one of these events together, Ben.

Here is a cool pic of some fellow kayakers with the trailway bridge in the background.

I here you JonL. Although I'm not insistant on the lake getting to pool, I think getting the creek running will pull the whites in. If we don't get enough runoff with this next Sunday through Monday forecast I'll probably go coastal. That being, hit the beach and load up on the big whiting...Lawton

We had a great time Saturday at the park pavilion and it sounds like it was a better day to tie flies and tell lies anyway wink Thanks go out to all of you who visited Nails Creek Park and the Fish Camp 2013.. Next up will be a kayak fishing clinic or two!

One between now and spring break and/or one during spring break. Depends greatly on what the weather does...

I have been watching the Yegua flow rates pretty close yesterday and today hoping for a decent rise. My math (you might check me on this)shows a combined east and middle Yegua at Hwy21 Dimebox of 1 inch of rise and 1.8 cfs of flow. I'm thinking that we had more rainfall South of Dimebox than North adding to these estimates. It's not much but keep in mind that 2cfs is at least 30% more than we had last week. I'm hoping to kayak fish for whites again Thursday...Lawton

I popped into the lake at Nails Creek State Park late last week. Wanted to see if the new skiff could traverse the flats into the Yegua without too much grief. Curiosity and the adventure of it all; poling across the flats and motoring up the creek to try my luck at some whites was my main motivation. I knew from HL&S posts the yak was a shoe in for access but, something about not having to make that long paddle back was just too appealing not to launch the skiff. Fire up that little four stroke and high tail it out of there. However, I did do some paddling and poling but not much.

The bite was slow but the lake and creek gave the Solo Skiff a good work out. Didn't mark many fish but finding some deeper holes for next time should be helpful. Shot some video if you're interested. Should be uploaded by morning and I'll set up a link when it's finished. Here's the link to my first video. Please be kind. Video

The pitiful fish count was 3 hooked and two landed. The only female spit the hook before I could get my hands on her. Hope she spawns out well. Found a bunch of large carp on the flats and am contemplating a carp/fly trip if the whites don't run well this year.

A few pics.

Beautiful afternoon.
