Just curious to know who uses them to fish and how do you like what you have. If possible post some pics of what you have.

I have a Jackson Coosa and a small Grizzly Tracker 1448SC I know a lot of folks like to bank fish, and when it's 'on' bank fishing is just so easy to do. However, having a kayak really expands where you can fish. It's easily worth the minimal investment. Boats are a bit more of a money pit, I do like mine and we will probably upgrade, but a yak is an 80% solution for a boating requirement.

I don't have pics unfortunately, but I had a 12' jon boat and still have a 14'6" Old Town canoe. The jon boat was an old Tracker that I bought second hand and put a 10HP tiller motor that I strapped to the back of it. I rigged that boat out like a small, tough version of a bass boat. 3/4" treated plywood decks, front and back. Outdoor carpet front to back. Storage lockers, live wells, rod lockers. It was a good boat, sold it planing to build a bigger, better river/bay version but got PCSed over here before I could start. You do sink a lot of money into boats, especially if you want ALL the bells and whistles. I like mine to be more bare bones. Good electronics, live well pump, TM, bilge pump, good dry storage, seperate battery and fuel tank storage, etc.. The new rigged out Grizzly Trackers come just about with all that stuff now. I might get one like DR's when I'm in the market again. I love the options that I have when I have a nice, rigged out boat, and if you have the $ for them, they pay off big time. The canoe goes back to my boy scout days. Actually bought it from the place that used to hold our annual summer camps. Don't remember the model; the paint and markings are long gone. I love that canoe, but will probably sell it to upgrade to a newer, nicer one suitable for my new family. Canoes are excellent boats for last minute trips, or ANYWHERE on small waters current or no current, or state parks, etc.. Especially when taking 2-4 people. My next purchase (already got funds appropriated to it and done some research and did a couple test runs) will be a Nucanoe Frontier. Canoes are nice, but they can be kind of cumbersome and don't have as many options for rigging as these new SIT kayaks. Also, kayaks are easier to transport and fish solo. My ultimate plan is to have all 3!!

I don't target Sunfish but have been following you guys a bunch. For what I have been reading a nice 16' tracker or something very similar would be a perfect boat. Also those Kayak anglers who post here seem to get some very good catches. As for me I have been a Skeeter man just about all my life.

25 years on the river, I've tried em all. Jon Boat, canoe, crawdad, yaks and busters. A 16' Tracker is king. Had several of those. This was a great rig! The one I shouldn't have let get away. Right now I have a lot of fun with this: I really like it!!!! Just sold my big boat and went to a smaller one I will use some in the river. Before it's all over with I'll probably end up back in Tracker. Sorta funny. Started in a Buster then a Tracker I've had some pretty nice boats over the years http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c147/mha21xd/boats/It looks like I'm headed back to my roots and will probably end where I began in a river rig.

I've used a 10 foot Ascend FS10 yak from basspro for the last four years. I usually find gills near trees that hang over into the creek. A fly rod and a popper will catch gills all day.

Fishing out of little boats is half the adventure!! Especially when the quality of the boat is questionable because you built it yourself! I have tried all kinds of pre-manufactured boats over the years and after not finding what I truly wanted, decided to build my own! Boat building in itself becomes its own new hobby. But even after building several models, I am still looking for the perfect boat (which will probably never happen)! Here is my latest build. I just wanted a small portable boat that I could store in a small space and throw in the back of my truck when its time to go fishing (no trailer, racks or even tie downs). The main reason I chose this one is because it fit the bill, but would also take a trolling motor (though now that I built it, I never use the trolling motor!)

Good question flybug. I guess another huge motivational factor for me building my own boats is funds...or a lack there of in my case! I don't think I have built a boat yet that has cost me over $100.00. I am probably one of the rare boat owners that has actually sold a boat for more than it cost! The one above...about $95.00 for a complete boat (and that includes paint). And yeah, TuN3R has been in some of my boats...and he lived to tell the story...LOL!!

That is an excellent boat Pop! That's about as perfect as it gets for bream and panfishing exclusively in my book. My uncle had a similarly rigged boat and we fished all kinds of water in SE TX out of that boat. They don't handle the really big water as well as bigger boats, but they handle most of our freshwater just fine and are very maneuverable in tight spots. I keep going back and forth on getting a rig like that, but I fish many different species in freshwater and the brine. So, I think I have to go with a multi-tool like Jon boat. But I REALLY like that boat.
